Primary Elections Set For May 3 In Precinct No 3
Precinct 3 voters will choose a commissioner from Brent Daniel of Lamkin Homer Miller of Lamkin and C G Buzz Garner of Proctor in the May 3 primary. Absentee voting as of April 29 shows 150 ballots. The county posts with two candidates on the ballot include Tax Assessor-Collector with Gay Horton of Gustine and Louise Evans of Comanche. Incumbents unopposed include County Attorney James L Edwards Sheriff W G Shilo Garmon and Commissioner Wade Davis. Leslie Vance is unopposed for 220th District Attorney and Charles Stenholm is unopposed for the 17th Congressional District seat. Bob Glasgow and Walt Parker seek the 22nd District State Senate seat.

Ledbetter Qualifies For State Track Meet
John Ledbetter of the Bearcat track team finished second in the region II A 800 meter run with a time of 2 04.72 and advances to the state meet in Austin May 9 10. Bearcats scored 19 points with Tim Hare third in shot put 50 9.5 and Roman Saldivar sixth in the 400 meters 54.6. The 400 meter relay Lamberson Ledbetter Lewis Saldivar placed sixth in 45.97 and the 1600 relay Wright Saldivar Lewis Ledbetter finished sixth in 3 42.98.

DHS Student Saves Elderly Fisherman Near De Leon
A De Leon High School senior, Keith Smith, rescued 83-year-old fisherman J. R. Scott after Scott slipped from a boat and began to sink in a spring-fed lake on the Scott ranch. Smith swam to shore with the man and the boat, keeping them safe despite Scott’s Parkinson’s disease and inability to swim.
