Spring heat hits De Leon as wind blows hard

Lex Shelby invites all to a March 23 city hall meeting to discuss expanding the De Leon Industrial Foundation with Small Business Loan program aid. Women’s Cof Easter Egg Hunt Saturday at City Park

The Women’s Division hosts its annual Easter egg hunt this Saturday March 25 from 2 to 3 pm at City Park. Children ages 3 through 3rd grade are invited. The Easter Bunny will assist with egg finding. if weather cancels, the event moves to April 1 at the same time.

Fire Dept Holds Meeting and Pumper Races in De Leon

The North Central Texas Firemen Association will conduct its annual meeting and pumper races in De Leon on April 1. About 17 area departments are expected. intersections of Austin Street and Gonzales Street will be blocked from 6:30 PM. Nonparticipants are asked to avoid the area. De Leon Fire Department members are urged to attend and wear new coveralls.

Kendrick Easter Pageant Strives For Sunrise Drama

The eighth annual Kendrick Easter Pageant presents a free life of Christ from birth to resurrection at 3 30 A M on Easter Sunday April 2 1972. The event runs at the Eastland Cisco Texas area amphitheater on U S Highway 80 and features a lay cast from area churches. On Easter Sunday afternoon The Carson and Barnes 5 Ring Wild Animal Circus performs at 2 00 and 45 p m, allowing time for evening church services.

Comanche County Drivers Pay Bill For Interstate System

Comanche County car owners contribute to the Highway Trust Fund through gas and auto taxes. Local drivers of 5,670 cars average 10 000 miles yearly at 14 mpg paying about 30 dollars annually. 15 000 miles pays 45. The fund finances 90 percent of road construction. the system, started 16 years ago, will cost about 75 billion by 1978. Local totals show about 170 000 dollars contributed in the past year, excluding local auto-use taxes.

De Leon Junior High Boys Track Showings At Comanche Meet

De Leon Junior High opened the season tying for third with Stephenville at the Comanche meet amid a large field of Class AA and AAA schools. Craig Smith won two events the 200 yard intermediate hurdles and 70 yard high hurdles while Robbie Davis, Tommy Cleere, and Kelly Gorman posted multiple podium finishes across sprints hurdles and field events.

Highway Patrol Reports Six February Accidents in Comanche County

The Texas Highway Patrol investigated six accidents on rural highways in Comanche County during February. Sgt A A Eggen, supervisor, notes 21 accidents with two deaths and eight injuries in the first two months of 1972.

Minister Alliance Plans Cottage Prayer Meetings Ahead of Easter

The De Leon Ministerial Alliance sponsors nine cottage prayer meetings on Thursday March 30 at 7 30 p m to honor Holy Week. Attendees may join any group held in local homes with leaders named for each location. Nursery care will be provided at the Methodist Church from 7 00 to 8 30 p m.

DeLeon School Offers Migrant Education Program

The DeLeon Public Schools implement a Migrant Education Program led by Mrs. Mei Ling Melton with aide Mrs. Virginia Ramirez to assist mobile migrant children. Essay Winners In U S S W Contest

The Upper Leon Soil and Water Conservation District announced 1972 essay contest winners at Sidney and Comanche High Schools. Roxann Moore won first at Sidney, with $10. Sam Wright second with $5. In Comanche Debbie Grimmer took first and received $10, Wayne Harvey second with $5. Janis Nabors and Kay Chapman each earned $10 and $5 in De Leon.
