Gayle Wilkerson invites the community to an open house for the new hospital this Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Remodeling of the old wing is underway. The note also congratulates DHS students named to all district basketball squads and highlights local sports and civic activities. Elections approach with April 3 polls and absentee voting encouraged.
Friday events start with Jr. High and Varsity girls at Maiden Relays in Comanche, 1:00 p.m. and 9th grade boys at Cubcat Relays in De Leon with field events at 12:30 p.m. prelims 3:30 p.m. finals 6:30 p.m. Saturday features Varsity Boys at Bluebonnet Relays in Brownwood beginning 9:30 a.m.
A Social Security representative will visit De Leon at the Housing Project each Wednesday at 10:00 a.m through June. He also attends Comanche at the County Courtroom every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. The Brownwood office is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays at 300 North Main Building. Phone 915 646-7533. The agency administers Social Security Medicare and SSI for low income individuals.
The De Leon Hospital invites the public to an Open House on Sunday March 21 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. A new addition brings 40 beds and includes laboratory radiology 32 bed patient care unit 8 bed ICU and CCU emergency department 5 bassinet nurseries and delivery area. The existing building will soon house a surgical suite recovery central supply pharmacy chapel and admin area with completion around April 15. Hospital administrators Jack Heath and the board urge community attendance.
The Texas Patrol investigated nine accidents on rural highways in Comanche County during February. Sergeant Eggen reports one death and five injuries for February 1976, bringing 1976 totals to 22 accidents with one death and fourteen injuries in the county.
A long list of seniors named on the honor roll includes Shirlee Chapp and Clifford Doan along with Stephen Decker Sharon Hammit Polly Moore Scott Owen and many others. The notice enumerates students across grades 8A and 7A 7B with dozens of names cited for academic distinction.
First Baptist Church De Leon schedules a revival March 21 to 28 with evening services at 7 00 P M and morning services at 10 00 A M Sunday through Sunday Evangelist Dr Woodson Armes secretary of the Christian Education Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas will lead the revival His wife Sybil accompanies him Music Director Allen Stroud a Baylor graduate and Riverside Baptist Church music leader will direct the music efforts with focus on youth Billy Spencer pastor invites all to attend.
The Drop In club invites items for a rummage sale to raise money for air conditioning in their new senior citizens club building. Edith Short can be contacted at 6311 or items can be dropped off at the club house or picked up if needed.
The 7th 8th and 9th grade boys host the first Cubcat Relays this Friday at De Leon's All-weather track. Eleven teams compete in the meet with field events starting at 12 30 p.m. Preliminaries at 3 30 p.m. finals at 6 30 p.m.
After district titles De Leon Bearcats and Kittens dominate the 10-A honors. First team includes Craig Smith Stephen Decker and Daryl Ward from De Leon with Kelly Mitchell Perri Lou Short on the girls side. Second teams feature Rocky Hardin Terri Van Zandt Shirlee Chapp and many others representing Dublin Early Bangs Cross Plains Ranger Goldthwaite.
