C Melvin Fields age 65 of Route 1 Comanche named new pastor at St Joe Baptist Church after serving as interim pastor for six months. He and wife Skipper have three children Brenda Sue Henson Fort Worth Kenneth Joe Fields Pryor Oklahoma and Betty Ann Dolina Claremore Oklahoma. last pastorate was at First Baptist Fredericksburg.
The Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce will host its annual political forum on Friday April 1 at 7 30 p m at the Reunion Center on Highway 6 East De Leon. Candidates for city council school board and hospital board will each have a speaking opportunity.
The First Baptist Church of De Leon schedules revival services next week in March 2025. Sunday service times are 10 40 a.m. and 6 00 p.m. Weekday services Monday through Friday will start at 12 00 noon.
Governor Mark White and Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower declare March 18 24 as Texas Agriculture Week to spotlight the plight of family farmers and ranchers. Activities include exhibits in the State Capitol, an Austin livestock show fair on March 19, a cow milking contest, and a major farm policy statement.
A joint proclamation by Governor Mark White and Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower proclaims the week of March 18 through March 24 to recognize family farmers and ranchers. It notes agriculture as a major Texas industry, the 37 billion dollar output, and urges Texans to support farm survivors amid market pressures and foreclosure risks.

The Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce sponsors an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday March 28 at 2 00 p m. The event is scheduled for the Easter weekend and will be held at a local venue.
In a memorandum to C Hoke Leggett associate administrator of the USDA's Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service the department said it would raise national support levels for quota peanuts by as much as 6 percent if the national average production cost rose excluding land costs. Leggett said 1982 peanut production costs actually declined from 1981 so no increase is needed. The USDA also issued an interim rule on poundage quotas and Cont'dto Page7.

The Upper Leon Soil and Water Conservation District held its eleventh annual Conservation Awards Banquet at Proctor Area Recreation Center on Lake Proctor. About 177 attendees heard remarks from district leaders and bankers, and awards went to multiple zone farmers and a homemaker.
De Leon's Women's Clubs host the Spring Fling this Saturday March 19 starting at 11 00 a m with a salad luncheon cooked by club members and cookies by Garden Club members A fashion show by local De Leon merchants runs during the event with door prizes drawn throughout Tickets and items for sale after the event include bedding plants cookbooks and kitchen kits Robbie Mc Killip chairs the event Verganna Halbrook serves as treasurer Special thanks go to the decorating fashion show and other committee members for their efforts.
Crime Stoppers programs statewide involve citizens in solving felonies and keep informants anonymous. In Comanche County a directorate formed on February 10 to set policy, raise funds, and oversee payments and rewards. Donations are being accepted at Dublin National Bank and other county banks.
