Varieties Of 1955 Set For High School Auditorium Show

De Leon residents are invited to the high school auditorium Tuesday March 22 at 8 p m for Varieties Of 1955 a program blending music comedy and specialty acts. The De Leon Stage Band led by Ernest Repast performs several numbers and a vocal trio joins the lineup. A five piece Jazz Band from Texas Christian University features professional musicians including Repast Morris Repast and Nolley Vereen with drum solos. Other acts include Wade Freeman amateur magician Ann Parsons piano solo the De Leon Quartet Leon Valley Boys and a vocal duet Sylvia Foster Patsy Stephenson plus a pantomime by high school girls. Admission is 40 cents for adults 25 cents for students. proceeds support the band uniform fund.

Sinclair Station Open Under New Management

L A Feist of Priddy takes over the Sinclair station on Texas Ave across from Travelers Hotel and will open Saturday March 19. He is assisted by his married son Laman, with three other sons Jackie Kenneth and Donald. The Feist family invites past customers and new ones to try the service.

Comanche County 4-H Plan April Events and District Council

Comanche County 4-H committee met Monday to outline April activities including the County Dairy Foods Contest on April 16 and the Share-the-Fun Festival on April 29. Five girls Sipe Springs Susie Cook De Leon Gustine and leaders formed the planning group. Reta Richman De Leon was chosen to represent the county on the District 4-H Council with Mary Haynes as first alternate and Peggy Godfrey as second alternate. Mary Haynes closed with a speech on Youth's Part In The World Today.

College Group to Visit First Christian Church De Leon

A Dallas Christian College caravan will visit the First Christian Church of De Leon next Sunday evening March 20. Professor Charles Gresham will lead the service with Dallas students participating. The program includes musical numbers chalk talks slides and Gospel messages inviting public attendance. The article notes Dallas Christian College growth since 1949 from five ministerial students to 77 in regular study and about 20 in night classes. Bro Gresham is praised as a Christian gentleman.

De Leon Peach and Melon Festival Dates Set for 1955

De Leon officials announce August 11 12 and 13 as the festival weekend with Homecoming Friday and Saturday. Plans include a 100 by 40 foot exhibit building on park property east of the Cooze station and near the George place, leased adjoining Amercan Legion grounds for festival use. About $1 000 funds exist for construction with a drive planned for the rest as Shaeffer Shows of Texas and others are lined up to boost the event the biggest since the good ole days.

Cub Pack Holds First Meeting at Methodist Church

Cub Pack 23 held its inaugural gathering at the Methodist Church Tuesday night with 85 attendees including 32 Scouts. Twenty nine earned Bobcat badges as four dens presented programs. Den No 2 had the most parents present. All parents urged to attend future meetings. Boys aged 8 to 11 may join after contacting Cub Scout Master James G. Tate.

Guild To Meet At Glen Lake Centeral Texas Conference

More than 300 Wesleyan Service Guild members from across the Central Texas Conference are expected at the Glen Lake Methodist camp for the annual guild meeting on Sunday March 20. The theme is The Holy Way with speakers Frances Burns Dr James Hare and Mrs Kenneth McGill.

Carl E. Riley of Snyder Dies Suddenly

We report the death of Carl E. Riley of Snyder after a heart attack on Tuesday. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Tommy L. Austin officiating. An obituary will appear in the Free Press next week.

Mrs Noel Breaks Hip in Fall

Mrs. Sam Noel fell February 2 and broke her hip. She was treated at Gorman hospital then moved to Hendricks Memorial in Abilene for surgery. She returned to Gorman and has been recovering for two weeks. Friends report steady improvement and hope for a swift return home.

Miss Holdridge Named Sweetheart at Texas Wesleyan

Ermilee Holdridge of De Leon has been elected sweetheart of the Methodist Student Movement at Texas Wesleyan College. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Holdridge, a De Leon High School graduate, senior elementary education major, and member of Chi Rho, Student Council of Religious Activities, editor of TXWECO, and MSM.

Albany Man Voices His Opposition To Big Dams

The Comanche County Home Demonstration Council held its regular meeting March 14 at 2 00 in the courthouse. Mrs John Pogue chaired the session with prayer led by Mrs Clyde Wall. Thirteen members one visitor and Home Agent Mrs J B Arthur attended as all seven clubs were represented. May 17 is National Farm Week with the theme God and Home Source of Freedom. A basket lunch and recreation at Lake Banes are planned for May 5 at 8 00.
