Floyd H Sorley who has chaired the summer baseball program calls a meeting of all adults interested in this next season The meeting is at City Hall on Monday March 14 at 730 pm The first order of business is to select a chairman and then the new leader will organize the plan for the program to start on schedule
National Commander Seaborn Collins, a Austin born six foot plus leader of The American Legion, visits Texas March 6 to 9 with over 3 million members. State Commander E. L. Jackson calls the trip Operation Seaborn as 784 Texas posts prepare seven meetings where Collins will speak. Albert D. Brown Jr. and G. Ward Moody accompany as national executive committee members.
The 4-H Club announces a fundraiser on Saturday March 12 at 9 a.m. in front of Shelby's Pharmacy selling pies cakes cookies and candy. All receipts support crippled children as part of National 4-H Club week led by Reta Richmon Jr.
Lieutenant Bob Walker, son of Mr and Mrs R H Walker, arrived in Dublin March 2 after a year in Europe with the armed forces. He will report to Camp Chaffee Arkansas Sunday to receive his discharge. Bob is well known in De Leon and his friends celebrate his homecoming.
The following men have been ordered to report for induction into the Army on March 8 at the Abilene Texas Induction Station. Jackie Kent Welch Comanche Donald Dennis Strackbein Rising Star Carl Leon Welch Comanche The next induction call will be on April 5 when three men will be forwarded to Abilene for processing. There will be no April preinduction physical examination call.
The submarine qualification insignia features a submarine flanked by two dolphins, symbolizing expert underwater operations.
The Comanche County Grand Jury reports after a two day session they examined 18 witnesses found six true bills three felonies and one misdemeanor with indictments filed. They thank the District Attorney County Attorney Sheriff and officers and praise the judge for guidance. The jury inspected the county jail finding it clean well kept and adjournment requested subject to the judge’s call.

Cyril Irby Wayne Cham schools elected as principals for two years. Al Langford Billy Little James Perkins reelected as coaches and Ernest Repass as band director in January.
Mrs Burleson was elected early this year to the post of president of the Congressional Club, taking office February 1. She will serve a two year term in the tenure of the 84th Congress. The club is an organization of wives of senators and congressmen.
Elzo Brinson county superintendent and Drs Blackwood Reynolds and Smith outline a county wide polio vaccination plan pending Salk license. If approved, 411 children in Comanche County will be vaccinated using March of Dimes funded vaccine provided at no cost. Parents must sign consent forms distributed through schools.
Mr and Mrs James Polnac of Colorado Springs Colorado visit his parents Mr and Mrs A H Polnac. They recently lost their home by fire and their son eleven years old perished in the blaze. The Free Press offers sympathy to the family.
The Leon Protective Association meeting, moved from last Saturday, will convene at 2 30 p m Saturday March 12 in De Leon City Hall Committeeman Victor Scott urged all interested parties to attend and participate in the important discussions.
The fire department answered a call at Joe Underhill's grocery store at 5 o'clock Friday. The brief incident description notes the location and time of the emergency response.
Texas clubs will join the General Federation Community Achievement Contest co sponsored by Sears Roebuck Foundation. Texas leaders head the committee for the 1955 56 year with a 60000 prize to be announced at the General Federation Convention in Kansas City Missouri May 14 19 1956.

The ladies of the United Pentecostal Church hold a bake sale on Saturday March 12 in front of Bibby's store starting at 10 30 a m Proceeds support a worthy cause and invite the public to attend for treats.

Parker Ray George a 16 year old Odessa youth was riding in a pickup with Ray Stone when an automatic gun discharged striking him in the left breast and shoulder. He was taken to De Leon hospital where his condition remained unchanged.
The United Pentecostal Church marks its first anniversary with a Tuesday evening service on March 15 at 7 30. Rev. V A Guidroz Texas District Superintendent will deliver the message with special singing and an open invitation to all.

Birthday surprise for Stanley Waltrip of Centralia Washington brings together six of his seven Texas siblings in a nine o clock round robin telephone call. Maurice and Calvin Waltrip of Alvin, J D Sturke of Proctor, R C Dickey of Red Oak, Levis Wilkerson of De Leon, J C Tiller of Clute City join the event. Elva Smith of Corsicana could not be reached. Stanley Waltrip once lived in De Leon and is well remembered here.
The Lions Club sponsors an Aunt Jemima pancake supper at City Hall on Friday evening March 25 from 5 30 to 7 30. Menu includes pancakes syrup butter honey bacon and coffee. Pancake mix supplied by Quaker Oats Co Sherman and syrup by Comanche Wholesale Grocer Co. Event directed by Lions Finance Committee led by DeLoym Singleton with entertainment by Ernest Replase and James Miears. Tickets fifty cents.
The De Leon Independent School District schedules its board election for Saturday April 2. Terms of President W A Morgan and Jack Donohue expire and neither has filed. Filing deadline is March 24. Individuals may file in person at Dr T H Sharps office or by petition signed by at least five people.
A revival begins at Northside Baptist Church on Sunday March 27 and runs through April 3. Rev Huron A Polnac of Weatherford First Baptist preaches and Ernest Weeden Howard Payne College student leads singing. Polnac is well known in De Leon and is son of A G Polnac of Walnut Springs. Public invited. this is part of a Southern Baptist Convention evangelistic effort.
De Leon Implement Co hosts John Deere Day on March 15 with a family movie program lunch and a Tractor Rodeo. J Doss Miller promotes a big crowd of farmers and families to De Leon for prizes and demonstrations.
