Banquet Honors Conservation Award Winners in De Leon
Over 225 people gathered at PAR Country Club on February 28 for the Upper Leon Soil and Water Conservation District Seventh Conservation Awards Banquet. Banks across the district sponsored the event and awards, with Gene Gilbreath as emcee and J. W. Sadberry introducing guests. Mrs. Jerri Asmus, De Leon schools counselor, says testing will occur in March and April. Grades 4–10 take SRA and Iowa tests, with 11th and 12th graders on different exams. Parents are invited to review their child’s results and discuss progress with the counselor.

1979 Track Season Opens With Bangs Meets
The 1979 track season begins this week as junior high teams race to Bangs on Friday and high school squads travel there on Saturday for the first meets. Field events start Friday at noon, prelims at 2 30 p.m., finals at 6 p.m. Saturday starts at 9 a.m. with field events, running prelims at 10 a.m., and finals at 3 p.m.

Residential Homestead Exemption Forms Now At Tax Office
The De Leon tax office offers a $5,000 school tax homestead exemption following the Texas Tax Relief Amendment. Homeowners must file an annual affidavit between January 1 and April 30, 1979, swearing ownership and residency as of January 1, 1979. Only one homestead exemption is allowed per person, even with two homes. incapacitated owners may have someone file. About 800 to 900 forms have been signed. late filers will receive a mail-in form. If claiming the US year and over exemption, staff auto-claims the exemption already.
