Texas Public Schools Week highlights De Leon events with open house March 6 from 6 30 to 9 00 pm. Visitors meet teachers view teaching devices and learn about the school system and new Little Children’s Day Care Center while Stage Band performs and refreshments are served in Home Economics and Lunchroom.
The Little Childrens Care Center at 103 East Labadie De Leon will be formally opened on Sunday afternoon March 5 with a consecration service at 2 30 and an open house to 4 30 The Cisco District United Methodist Church Reverend Floyd E Johnson and Dallas Fort Worth area Texas Methodism Public Relations Director Reverend Robert L Robertson will take part The public is invited to attend both events Inquiries about needed items may be made at the Day Care Center
A.C. Cosby offers encouragement as De Leon welcomes a new homebound family and a potential manager for the De Leon Gorman Desdemona area from Texas Electric Service Co. Residents can buy license plates at City Hall and register to vote there. Income tax forms arrive for 1972 with tougher penalties and new computer checks. farmers and fishermen have relief if they file and pay early.
Census findings show Comanche County median age 43.4 in 1960s, down from 44.2. National median 27.9, Texas 26.4. Youth 15 to 34 now nearly 20 of residents. ages 15 to 24 rise from 1335 in 1960 to 1475. Birth rates postwar fueled the surge amid smaller families today.
The Farme rs & Merchants Bank honors Elmon Kerby who retired December 31 as president with a 40 guest buffet at Proctor Area Recreation Country Club. The event features a 1918 1971 dedication, a This is Your Life program, and gifts including a watch from the board.
The Texas Public School system marks its week March 6 to 10 with open houses and guidance on new teaching methods. Parents and citizens are urged to engage in the educational triangle of parent, school, and child to understand goals and apply learning to real life.
Four candidates filed for two seats on the De Leon Independent School Board to be decided at City Hall on Saturday April 1. Incumbents Dr. Forrest Eisenrich and Billy J. Hare seek re election. Bill Lindsey a lab technician and Gayle Mahan a rancher join the contest. Filing deadline is March 1.
Census Bureau data show the fertility ratio for Comanche County dropping from 358 in 1960 to 326. Although improved, the local figure remains higher than many parts of the country, reflecting regional differences in birth rates.
D R Armstrong named De Leon manager for Texas Electric Service Company succeeding W M Brown Jr who died in January. Armstrong a 14 year sales rep in the Sweetwater division covered Colorado City Roscoe Loraine and Westbrook. He won the 1970 president's Award and is a Snyder native a 1954 Sweetwater High grad.
