Vacation Bible School Set at Round Grove Church

Methodist Revival Gains Attention and Attendance in De Leon

The Methodist revival shows rising interest with morning services drawing the largest crowds in the three revivals led by Evangelist Quay Parter and song leader Earl Ward in De Leon. Each evening features a specific sponsoring group and invites all city residents to participate through July 4 with daily services at 10 am and 8 pm.

Choice steers bring $25 at Fort Worth market

G H Harmon of De Leon shipped 776 pound steers to the Fort Worth market where the load sold for a top $25 per cwt. The sale was facilitated by C L Keen Jr of The Texas Livestock Marketing Ass'n. Heifers averaged $23 per cwt.

As the 4th of July falls on Sunday, most stores and offices will observe a holiday Monday July 5. Some stations may stay open part of the day or not at all, but the general plan is closure on July 5 with customers urged to complete purchases before or wait until Tuesday July 6.

The western De Leon community enjoyed a rain Tuesday afternoon with over an inch of moisture around Duster and a Beattie report noting more than two inches. De Leon also recorded a good shower.

The Royal Ambassador's Camp at Lake Brownwood District 16 reports 535 boys registered with ten from First Baptist De Leon and twelve from Northside Baptist De Leon. Forty boys have been regenerated and many more dedicated to religious activity while seventy were unsaved.

Upstream Flood Control Has Small Effect on Reservoir Evaporation

H WN. Smith a Texas conservationist says upstream flood prevention dams do not threaten water supplies. He notes 40 dams in the Trinity watershed cut flood losses and allow crop expansion on previously flooded bottomlands. Evaporation from these pools is small compared with major reservoirs and overall inflows.

Jimmie West struck out 15 and allowed eight hits in a standout pitching performance. Noonkester swapped to catcher for West. At the plate Christie doubled and singled, Noonkester homered and two singles, Lamb singled and homered, West doubled twice, and Chester Brownlee added a single.

Hazeldell Wins Sweepstake Prize in Community Pasture Contest

Community Club Seeks Direct Telephone Link with De Leon

The Community Club met Thursday night at Black's Cafe with good member turnout and visitors from Desdemona. They discussed establishing direct telephone connections to De Leon as highway access nears completion. Desdemona residents attended with their wives and received a warm welcome.

Richey Killed in Car Crash Near Sweetwater Farm

Funeral services were held for 70 year old Nolan County farmer William M. Richey who died when his car overturned after hitting a culvert on a road near his farm west of Sweetwater. He had just attended his daughter's wedding in Denver. Survivors include six sons and three daughters.
