Voter turnout Saturday was light due to no local runoff races. Comanche gears up for a weekend Pow Wow starting Friday and a parade and rodeo next weekend. Residents discuss the recent solar eclipse and viewing methods, noting a welding hat as an improvised aid. Rain prospects Monday fade for many.
The De Leon Hospital will hold a public hearing on June 11 at 7 30 p m to consider the annual operating budget of the De Leon Hospital District for 1984 85.

Gustine on June 14 at the Community Center 13:00 to 15:00. Applications at Comanche Courthouse before June 11 17:00. No applications June 12 13 or 14. Bring a large grocery bag.
June Dairy Month marks a nationwide observance promoting dairy foods and saluting dairy families. Originating as National Milk Month and National Milk Week in 1937, it evolved into a full month by 1939 and later shifted promotional duties to the American Dairy Association in 1955, with efforts continuing year round.
Comanche County hosts two major weekends with a third annual Pow Wow on June 8 9 10 and the 42nd annual Amateur Rodeo June 14 15 16. Events include a Brisket Cook-Off at the Rodeo Grounds, Pow Wow Bridge Party, a new 10k Pow Wow Milk Run, an airport air show with helicopter rides, Confederate Air Force parachute jumps and ultralight display, Marines static exhibit, Miss Comanche County Pageant, art show, Baby Crawling Contest, clogging and square dancing, and a Saturday morning breakfast by the Dairy Wives. The Pow Wow activities span the Sidran Building and other Comanche locations with a Friday dance and Saturday festivities continuing.
A Texas data release shows 15.4 million residents in 5.45 million households with over 147 billion in spendable income. The study by CNI for the Texas Press Association details 28 billion on food 24 billion on vehicles 31 billion on clothing and furniture, with Comanche County showing 5,200 households and 13,100 people in 1983 and rising in 1984.
De Leon Volunteer Fire Department logged eight total calls in May with five inside the city and three outside. Fires included one landfill trash fire, five grass fires (three in city limits, two in Comyn area), one smoke scare at City Hall due to a lit cigarette in a restroom wastebasket, and one truck fire at a location not specified.
Manuel Rodriguez, a 34 year old Mexican male, was arrested in Rising Star after fleeing a Sunday night hit and run on Highway 36. John Snodgrass remained in serious condition with multiple fractures at Hendrick Medical Center Abilene. Ben Snodgrass not hospitalized. Rodriguez was caught at a Rising Star truck stop and jailed in Comanche County after a night long manhunt aided by Texas Department of Corrections bloodhounds.
In Saturday runoff elections State Senator Lloyd Doggett defeated Rep Kent Hance for the Democratic U S Senate nod by unofficial totals 489 909 to 489 400 a 509 vote edge with Hance carrying more of the counties still a recount is expected If Doggett holds he faces Phil Gramm in November to fill the seat being vacated by John Tower Incumbent Bill Davis won Justice Court of Criminal Appeals Place 2 while Bill White beat Thorpe for Place 3 Comanche County results and precinct tallies are listed
Garry Davis family found a broken bedroom window upon return from travel. Sheriff says nothing missing from the residence. Earlier a theft was observed on May 24 at Keith Carr farm near De Leon, with an acetylene and an oxygen bottle stolen from an old house storage near the new site. Suspects described as a dark haired man and a light haired woman with several children in a dirty white station wagon.
Tarleton State University will add five athletes and coach Cecil Ballow to its Tarleton Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies tied to the football game against Austin College on November 10. Inductees include John D. Watkins Bobby Cavazos Clyde Noonkester Bob Barnett and Dianna May French with details on Noonkester's 1956 57 seasons and later life.
The De Leon City Council on May 22 approved a 100 dollar check deposit for use of City Hall kitchen. If no damages are made to City Hall, the deposit will be returned.
The annual Comyn Cemetery Association event will be held with Derwood Cane delivering the message. Singing is planned to follow in the afternoon at the church services.
