Sixty Five Club Attends Eastland Life of Christ Pageant
Sixty Five Club members dine at Trails West on I-20 then attend the Life of Christ pageant at the Amphi Theater on U.S. 80. The pageant, begun in 1965, now runs Thursday and Friday nights June 12th through August 12th with 135 cast members across 60 scenes. Buses arrive after midnight, with hostesses listed as Tola Wilson, Kenita Ranier, Jefflyn Alvey, Lena Taylor and Sue Wilson.

The 63rd De Leon Peach and Melon Festival launches a full week of events starting Monday August 1. Queen candidates meet judges at a tea and later perform in a Queen’s Revue with interviews and musical numbers. Little Miss De Leon will be crowned Wednesday night. 4 H Dress Revue and entertainment follow, with 4 H and music acts nightly at the festival stage. Tickets at the gate cover slab dancing area.

De Leon Schools Set to Open August 25 1977
The De Leon School Administrative Office released plans for the 1977 78 year with opening slated for August 25 pending repairs after a fire. The calendar was shortened to 175 instruction days under state law. key dates include August 22 faculty in service, August 23 high school registrations, August 24 principal faculty meetings, and buses on regular schedules.

Proctor Boy Killed In Motorcycle Accident
A twelve year old Proctor boy, Leslie Todd McCamey, was killed when the motorcycle he rode collided with a car at the intersection of Highway 67 and a county road in Proctor at 8 40 a m Tuesday July 26. Marcus Dwayne Sarris of Dallas drove the 1970 Chevrolet and was uninjured. Judge T N Walker pronounced the boy dead at the scene. De Leon Funeral Home ambulance responded. Harrells Funeral Home in Dublin will manage funeral arrangements.

Year of the Peanut theme for Peach and Melon Festival

Contract Let For Repair Work At High School
The De Leon Independent School District awarded a contract to Higginbotham Bros. and Co. of Comanche to repair the high school damaged by the July 15 fire. The project includes new electrical wiring, suspended ceilings, fluorescent lighting, new carpet, and roof repairs totaling about $10,000 above insurance settlement. Completion aimed before August 25.

The De Leon Ex-Students Association holds its annual meeting at De Leon City Hall on Saturday August 6 at 10 00 a m. De Leon reports a July sales tax rebate of 1379.24 compared with 709.55 last year. Through 1977 payments total 24435.23, about 4000 more than the prior year at this point. Statewide 1977 rebates to date exceed last year by 20.3 percent.
