Baggett Home Burglarized in Proctor
Sometime between last Thursday night and Monday the B G Baggett home in the Proctor community was burglarized. Entry was made by knocking out a window and unlocking the door. Two suspects, with the sheriff waiting on a lawn mower serial number, and two items missing a lawn mower and edger plus silverware. Deputy W G Garman notes no residents but frequent checks.

Craig Smith Named North All Star for July 29 Football Game
The 1976 THSCA North South All Star event in Houston features Craig Smith of De Leon High School as a North quarterback. He earned 672 rushing yards, 1 037 passing yards, 131 points, and multiple all state honors. The North team will face the South July 29 at the Astrodome after a July 28 basketball showdown in Hofheinz Pavilion.

Terry Nabors to Play in East West Green Belt Bowl
Terry Nabors, De Leon Bearcats defensive halfback and end, will participate in the East West Green Belt Bowl at Childress on Friday August 6. He reports Sunday for workouts and will play with coaches from Angelo State University and Eastern New Mexico University. Nabors earned Star Telegram Super All Star, All State Class A and All District honors and led the Bearcats to the state title.

Senior Citizens Center Builds Activity Hub in De Leon
The De Leon Senior Citizens Center on Highway 6 near the Festival Grounds operates six months with aid from City of De Leon West Central Texas Council of Governments and Comanche County. Edmond Stewart and local businesses funded a refrigerator while the center added air conditioners a new office and a kiln. Activities include ceramics macrame quilt making dominoes 42 and 84 and a peanut shaped mold draws interest. The center sells finished ceramics to raise funds and plans a Peach and Melon Festival flea market booth. Edith Short manages the center open 8 am to 5 pm weekdays with occasional evening events. About 100 people visit weekly with 37 regulars and a growing drop-in group led by Matt McClellan Enola Spruill and Pat Eddleman.
