Peach and Melon Festival August Dates Announced

Gayle Wilkerson notes the Peach and Melon Festival set for August 16 with a festive program and queen candidates to be featured next week. Merchants will be contacted for ads for the forthcoming edition. The author reports last week’s rain spared the Wilkerson place, while other areas received an inch or more.

Fiddlers contest and Little Miss De Leon entries planned

A week long festival schedule includes an open fiddlers contest on Friday night August 5 with no entry fee and on site registration. Grand champion will receive 150 dollars plus first place prize. Little Miss De Leon contestants include Anna Marie Rodriquez Talina Swint and others. A 4-H contest runs Wednesday morning with details via county home demonstration agent Sarah Tebow.

Tractor Pull Featured Across Three NIGHTS At Festival

The Peach and Melon Festival hosts a three night Tractor and Truck Pull sanctioned by the Texas Tractor Pullers Association with a $9,500 purse. Events Thursday through Saturday include stock, non turbo, open classes, modified, economy modified, turbo and 4x4 divisions plus child age categories.

The State Comptroller lists district by district data on superintendent salaries elementary and secondary teacher pay average daily attendance and administrator to teacher ratios. Statewide averages show superintendent 41176 teacher salaries 19452 and 20140 for secondary teachers with daily attendance 2 673 746 and admin to teacher ratio 1 6.
