The festival committee opens arts and crafts booths for sale at 50 dollars each. Entries for the annual fruit contest are accepted August 1 from 10 to 12 at the festival shed, judged at 1 pm, then sold at the evening auction. Also features a Little Miss De Leon contest and a Pet Parade on August 1.

Changes In Homestead Definition For De Leon ISD Tax
De Leon ISD reports changes from the School Tax Assessment Practices Board under H.R. 1060 define a residential homestead as the residence and land used for residential purposes. Land area limited to around one to five acres, down from previous up to 200 acres. Wayne Clark notes many county residents own 200 acres or more. 100% market value will be used next year for tax bases, affecting 65 plus rural residents and leading to revised tax calculations.

The De Leon festival tractor pull, sanctioned by the Texas Tractor Pullers Association, runs Thursday through Saturday August 2 to 4 with a Wednesday night three wheeler race. Comanche County asks governor to reinstate road funds
Last week the Comanche County officials led by County Judge Johnny Livingston and Commissioners Wade Davis Billy Patton Irvin Dunn and Derwin Nabors sent a letter to Governor Clements protesting his veto of seven million three hundred seventy six thousand three hundred seventy four dollars for county lateral road funds. They urged a special session to restore the funding for H.R. 558 from the 66th Texas Legislature. The letter stressed county roads serve rural traffic and noted fuel and maintenance costs. They requested reconsideration and reinstatement of the funds.

Rural Rental Housing Contract Let for De Leon
Housing Authority Administrator Bud Morrison announces a contract with Farmers Home Administration to build nineteen rural rental apartments in De Leon. The six-building complex west of Burr and Manchaca will include eight one bedroom nine two bedroom and two three bedroom units with construction starting July 20 and to be completed by January 3 1980 under Section 8515 subsidies.
