Peach and Melon Festival Queen Contest and Events

The De Leon festival announces the second age five to six queen contest on Tuesday July 31 at 9:00 pm on the festival stage. Contestants from the De Leon School District may enter by calling 499 6600. The winner will receive roses and join the Queen’s Coronation on Wednesday night with a parade float on August 1. A new Mini Bikes division debuts with prize money for 1st 2nd and 3rd. The State Peach Queen contest will be hosted by Murray Cox on August 4. Be sure to attend and meet Cox in De Leon.

Cornborer Infestations Rise in Central Texas Peanuts

Comanche County Residents See Spending Rise Across Goods

A market study by Standard Rate and Data Service shows Comanche County households spent more in the past year. Food outlays in grocery stores totaled 5 919 000, up from 5 604 000, and automotive equipment purchases reached 5 667 000 from 4 982 000. Other categories include general merchandise 3 773 000, wearing apparel 605 000, and furniture 762 000, with inflation driving much of the rise.

Comanche County prepares for its Third Annual Fair set for August 16 17 and 18 with a detailed tentative timetable. Exhibitors set up booths and displays August 14 15 while art judging agriculture and home craft entries occur August 16. Food entries judging and booths follow with entertainment slated each evening and air show on August 18.

De Leon Ex-Student Association reminds all who attended De Leon High School of the reunion to be held Saturday August 4 at the high school auditorium. Registration begins 9 30 a m with the program at 10 a m. Further details to appear in next week's Free Press.

Gospel Meetings at North Side Church of Christ

A series of gospel meetings runs Sunday July 22 through Sunday July 29 at the North Side Church of Christ. Services are Sundays at 10 30 and 7 00 and weeknights at 7 30 led by Evangelist Larry Robertson of Springfield Missouri. The church sits two blocks west of the high school.
