Rainfalls bless weekend as festival plans and honors unfold

Area received three to four inches of rain boosting spirits. Ex-Student Reunion set for Festival week with DHS Class of 1926 to be recognized. Ex-Student Association led by C. L. Mahon. secretary Marsha Sides mailed reunion details. Senior citizens building receiving furnishings. De Lon merchants donated a new refrigerator. Peach and Melon Festival queen candidates selling $300 drawings for the Saturday night pageant including Miss De Leon. Each contestant must sell $100 in tickets. Little League season concluded with Fincher Feed undefeated 12 0. president Jackie Ravenshine praised for umpiring. F and M Bank girls team claimed first place in girls softball. Linda Burlison and Janet McGinnis guided the team. Geneva Wilson led the Cont. page.

Peach and Melon Festival Queen Candidates Named

The De Leon festival selects queen candidates during a July 9 tea at the F M Bank Hospitality Room. Ribbons show each candidate, blue with a peach and watermelon, as the community prepares for the August 2 judging and August 7 $300 merchandize drawing with De Leon merchants.

Windows To Be Decorated For P M Festival

The P M Festival Committee sponsors a contest for best decorated store window with Bicentennial themes. Judging is Monday morning August 2, with ribbons displayed during festival week. Prizes: 50, 25, 15, and 10 dollars.

Fair Ladies Tour Smoky Mountain Area Announces Plans

Fair Ladies and guests discussed last minute plans at a bank briefing in Murfreesboro. They depart July 16 for a ten day Greyhound World Tours trip visiting Biltmore House, The Hermitage, Silver Dollar City and Cherokee drama Unto These Hills with Grand Ole Opry audience seats reserved.

Escapees From Gatesville Home Evade Pursuit Four Hours

Two Gatesville youths aged 16 and 17 escaped the Gatesville Home for Boys taking a 1970 Plymouth Duster. In a four hour chase across Comanche Coryell and Erath counties they rammed a patrol car and fled on foot through thick Leon River brush. Both teens were captured and jailed on burglary criminal mischief and destruction of state property charges.

Faculty Complete At De Leon Schools For 1976-77

The De Leon School Board fills the 1976-77 faculty with Janet McGinnis as Homemaking and Sharon Lesley as 7th-8th grade social studies and language arts. Charlotte Johnson shifts to high school math and physical science, Nancy Helm to remedial reading in grades 7-12. Wanda Patterson and Elizabeth Welch are added to business and 7th-8th grade math roles.
