Peach and Melon Festival Queen Candidates Named
The De Leon festival selects queen candidates during a July 9 tea at the F M Bank Hospitality Room. Ribbons show each candidate, blue with a peach and watermelon, as the community prepares for the August 2 judging and August 7 $300 merchandize drawing with De Leon merchants.

Escapees From Gatesville Home Evade Pursuit Four Hours
Two Gatesville youths aged 16 and 17 escaped the Gatesville Home for Boys taking a 1970 Plymouth Duster. In a four hour chase across Comanche Coryell and Erath counties they rammed a patrol car and fled on foot through thick Leon River brush. Both teens were captured and jailed on burglary criminal mischief and destruction of state property charges.
