De Leon voters decide on hospital district next Tuesday

Queen's Contest Opens for Peach and Melon Festival

The 59th annual Queen contest began July 9 with a tea at Mrs. Donald Alderman's home. Ten local girls compete, each with a sponsor, selling tickets to qualify for the Queen's Revue on July 31. The event includes interviews, stage presentation, and a $300 drawing prize.

Court Cases Up 21 Percent In District Court

In Comanche County 1972 filings rose 21 percent to 182 total from 1971. 45 criminal and 137 civil. Judge Byron L. McClellan presides over 52nd District Court with Jurisdiction including Comanche Bosque Coryell Hamilton. District court disposed 189 cases in 1972, 66 percent of filings. 99 cases remained on the docket. Statewide filings rose less than one percent. 47 percent of criminal dispositions were guilty pleas. jury verdicts yielded 74 percent guilty and 26 percent acquitted. The state’s docket totals reached 276,979 with 19 percent on docket 12–24 months and 28 percent over two years. The council will publish county and municipal data starting 1973.

Hospital District Election Vote Set For Next Tuesday

Election officials expect 500 to 600 voters in precinct Four to decide district status for the Hospital District. Polls at De Leon City Hall run 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Absentee voting at City Hall 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until Friday. Election day is July 17.

Revival Services at Northside Baptist Church Next Week

Northside Baptist Church hosts a week long revival July 15 to 22 with Dr Malcolm Bane evangelist pastor of First Baptist College Station. Reggie Bowman of Pioneer Drive Abilene will lead the singing and has served as music minister in multiple churches. Evening services start at 8 00 and a morning session at 10 00 Monday through Thursday. Everyone is invited.

Absentee Voting Underway in De Leon Election

Eligible voters may cast absentee ballots at City Hall and City Secretary's Office in De Leon this week for the Four Hospital District election. Voters must reside in the district for six months and be registered. registration lasts three years and is extended with each regular election. Property ownership not required.
