The time capsule was buried on the Comanche square to be opened in 2076. The Peach and Melon Festival is planned for August 27 with Deval Brown as Chair, Sue Wilson Vice-Chair, and Bodie Weaver Treasurer.

De Leon Peach and Melon Festival Plans 62nd Year
The De Leon Peach and Melon Festival organizers announce the 62nd annual celebration set for August 2 to 7 with events led by Chairman Deral Brown and officers Sue Wilson, Bodie Weaver, and Betty Terrill. Highlights include queen selection, Asleep at the Wheel, street parade, tractor pulls, Gospel and bluegrass acts, and a new flea market. The Bicentennial theme honors forefathers, with 109 pullers last year and collaboration with the Texas Tractor Pullers Association for three nights. Festival office at 893-6600.

Stage Band To Meet July 13

Ronald Brown New Minister at First Christian Church De Leon
Ronald M Brown begins ministry at First Christian Church De Leon following North Texas Evangelizing Association support for a full time pastor. A Texas native born in Big Spring, he served in the Navy and as a police officer before study at Dallas Christian College and ministry at Bella Vista Church. He and his wife Linda and their two children Revel and Tye moved to De Leon residing at 306 E Reynosa.

Minipark Dedicated In Comanche For Bicentennial
A Bicentennial Horizons project dedicates Bicentennial Park on the Comanche town square. Stone columns from the 1890 courthouse frame the site while a time capsule beneath the Fleming oak is to be opened in 100 years. The capsule includes a 320 page illustrated history titled Patch work of Memories.

July 4th Bicentennial Celebration A Big Success
The De Leon Promotory Park program concluded with county wide participation. Volunteers including Lena Taylor and Deral Brown organized booths and events while the fire bell ceremony and music delighted attendees. Winners in youth contests, a Comanche De Leon slow pitch game, and several quilt prizes marked the day.

May Savings Bonds Pass $8 618 in Comanche County
County Bond Chairman Reginald Waggoner reported May sales of Series E and H United States Savings Bonds totaling $8,618 in Comanche county. Five month sales reached $61,067, or 31 percent of the 1976 goal of $200,000 for the county. Texas monthly sales were $23,323,639 with year to date at $118,488,815 and 44 percent of the statewide $272.4 million goal.
