License Strips Available February

Comanche County auto owners will not buy new plates this year but must purchase strips to place on current licenses. Auto licenses go on sale February 1 1976 with a De Leon City Hall office likely opening March 1. Mr. Thomas K foreman will advise on the matter later.

Free Press Changes Privately Owned by Wilkersons

Bill and Judy Wilkerson of Pleasanton purchase the portion of the Free Press from Jim and Nancy Wilkerson. The note praises Jim and Nancy for years of service and wishes them well in Comanche. The issue also salutes the 41st Comanche County Livestock Show with praise for De Leon exhibitors and local supporters.

De Leon youths excel at the 41st Comanche County Livestock Show with 196 exhibitors and 365 animals across steers lambs barrows breeding ewes goats and gifts. Dee Dee Nowlin won Grand Champion Market Lamb and led De Leon to the cleanest area trophy for the fifth straight year.

Free Press Names Gayle Wilkerson New Editor

Gayle Wilkerson is named editor of the De Leon Free Press effective with this issue. He will also hold a working interest as owner following purchase of the remaining stock by Judy and Bill Wilkerson. The Wilkersons, publishers of The Pleasanton Express, acquired full control last week.

Comanche Junior Livestock Show Sets Second Largest Sale

A Friday night sale at McDougal's Auction barn grossed 58 667 70 for 175 market animals in the Comanche Junior Livestock Show. Floyd Key notes the event was the second largest in fifteen years, with last year’s sale totaling about 19 000 less. Lambs, barrows, and steers brought varied totals and top prices, including a 1266 70 milk fed steer by Dee Dee Nowlin and a 466 20 grand champion barrow by Steve Davis.

4-H Leaders Plan Activities and Lions Club Note

4 H adult leaders met January 26 at Texas Power and Light for a covered dish supper and business session. Glenda Levisay presided as vice president. Williford Millsap heads the 4 H Volleyball Tournament committee. Sybie Helmsley proposed a Flower Show. this and a Vegetable Show are set for June 4 and July 7 respectively.
