Funeral services for H M Carleton 59 of Benbrook were held at the First Methodist Church with Rev Guill and Rev Floyd Thrash officiating. He died after a heart attack in Roma Starr County while fishing in Mexico with his brother Fort Worth City Councilman T L Carleton and nephew Allen Carleton. He was born October 10 1895 in Alexander Erath County and lived in Eastland and Tarrant County eight years. He worked for Leonards Department Store and was married to Minnie Donalds in 1929. Surviving are his wife four brothers two sisters and a host of nieces and other relatives. Interment was in De Leen Cemetery. Higginbotham Funeral Directors in charge.
Two chartered buses will depart De Leon City Hall on Wednesday February 2 for Fort Worth to attend the Fat Stock Show De Leon Day. Tickets $3.50 for bus round trip plus $2.50 for grounds rodeo entrance. total $6.00. About half the seats spoken for. reserve with O. H. Moore. 50 entry tickets also available. some businesses will close for De Leon Day. Return ETA about 5 30 P M. The band led by Mr Repass to perform at the Stock Show.
Mr and Mrs J H Gooden announced two new grandchildren last week. Sandra Joan Burkeen, daughter of Mr and Mrs J N Burkeen, weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces at Dublin Hospital on Tuesday January 18. The grandparents are L B Burkeen of Dublin and Nellie Gooden is the former Miss Hazel Gooden. The other child, a son, born January 20 in Greenleaf Hospital Brooklyn New York to Mr and Mrs William Hardwick, weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces and was unnamed at report time. Hazel Gooden is also his mother. Mr Hardwick served months in Korea before marriage. this is their first child. Mrs Harry Cozart returned from Dallas after caring for her little grandson.
Lakeview visit ends 41 27 for the Bearcats as McGinnes adds 14 and Koonce 11 points Hunt leads Lakeview with 13. Friday Brady game saw a 46 45 loss after ahead most of the way. Girls beat Cisco B team 47 23, A girls lose 47 40. Janetta Rhinehart scores 25 for De Leon boys next face Comanche Tuesday the 28th.
De Leon residents prepare for a Western event as they travel to Cow town on Wednesday February 2 to showcase De Leon Day at the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show. The feature includes a wild horse stampede cowboys, Buddy Keaton with a bucking horse and other rodeo acts featuring Pol Linderman among about 400 contestants.
All parties affected by the Proctor Dam construction are urged to attend a meeting at De Leon City Hall on Thursday night February 3 at 7 30. The project will deeply affect farmers landowners and business men in the area making attendance vital.

Thursday night marked De Leon's first Cinemascope screening at the Leon Theatre and Weeping Oak Drive-in Theatre. Owner Edgar Brinson fronts the upgrade with a higher admission of 40 cents for adults and 10 cents for children under 12 due to remodeling costs.
The Free Press announces ten 3 minute boxing bouts at 2 45 p m today in the high school auditorium for the Match of Dimes drive. Attendees are invited to bring donations.

Oscar Corby promoted to manager of Magnolia Petroleum Company’s Industrial Relations Department by E C Seymour. Corby succeeds J D Hensley retiring after 35 years. Corby is a native of Frath County Texas with long service in Davenport Healdton Burbank Satan Kermit and Dallas offices.
