Local Junior Livestock Show a Big Success in De Leon

County Livestock Show Set for January 22 23

The 41st Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show will be held January 22 23 at the Comanche County Livestock Barn. Entries from De Leon total 365 animals across 79 steers 81 lambs 129 barrows 18 breeding beef heifers 12 dairy heifers 7 breeding ewes 10 breeding goats and 29 breeding gifts. Judging starts 9:00 a.m. Thursday with barrows by Lee Roy Colgan. Breeding swine lambs sheep goats finish judging Thursday. Friday covers breeding beef heifers dairy heifers and market steers.

Anderson Candidate For State Office

The De Leon Beta Club plans to attend the Texas Beta convention in Fort Worth January 23 and 24. Dianne Anderson will represent the club as candidate for state vice-president. Byron Smith will perform a piano solo in the talent competition. The club, a National Honor Society, requires a semester average of 90 or above and teacher approval for membership.

Peanut Transfers Approved By Comanche ASCS Committee

The Comanche ASCS County Committee will begin approving peanut transfers and reapportionments. Farmers will be notified if Congress changes current law that could alter acreage. Interested growers should visit the ASCS office.

Retirement Education Workshop at De Leon High School

A retirement education workshop titled Looking toward Tomorrow will be held at De Leon High School on Thursday January 22. The event features three sections with expert leaders on health finances and lifestyle and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. A luncheon follows with speaker Mike Durkin, and the program is sponsored by the Comanche County Retired Teachers Association and De Leon Public Schools.

Comanche County Bicentennial Committee Formed in 1975

The Comanche County Bicentennial Committee organized in January 1975 with John Dudley of Comanche and John Weaver of De Leon as County Co Chairmen. They planned activities for 1975 and 1976 with initial funding from county and city councils of Comanche and De Leon. John Anderson of the Texas Bicentennial Commission met the committee January 30 at PAR Country Club to kickoff planning.

REA Loan Approved for Erath County Electric

Washington DC congressman Omar Burleson announces a $997 000 Rural Electrification Administration loan to the Erath County Electric Cooperative Association based in Stephenville. The funds will serve 700 additional consumers 66 miles of line and system improvements across Erath Eastland Palo Pinto Stephens Young Bosque Comanche Corville Hamilton Hood and Somervell counties.

Peggy Nowlin Receives DAR Award at De Leon High

Peggy Nowlin was selected to represent De Leon High School in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended a tea at the First Christian Church in Stephenville where she received the DAR award for dependability leadership service and patriotism.
