Town Talk: Retirement Wishes For The Kays

De Leon Chamber Banquet Honors Man Woman of the Year

The annual banquet of the De Leon Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and Women’s Division will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at PAR Country Club. It will award Man of the Year Woman of the Year and the Golden Deeds Award for those 60 or older. Door prizes include a microwave oven and gift certificates. Tickets available at the Chamber office on Highway 6 West.

County Show Opens At Comanche County Livestock Center

The 46th Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show starts Thursday at 8 30 am at the Comanche County Livestock Center with 535 entries from 280 4H and FFA members. The 25th Annual Auction Sale follows Friday at 7 pm at McDougal's Auction Barn.

De Leon Livestock Show Held in New Show Barn

The annual De Leon Livestock Show took place Saturday January 15 in the new show barn with about 170 entries. Judge Bo Caraway presided as Grand Champion Breeding Swine went to a Duroc exhibited by Wendy Dutton, 14, daughter of Gary and Mrs Dutton. Beth Beaty earned Reserve Champion. Cont'd to Page 13.

Newly Sworn Justice of the Peace Resigns in Comanche County

Trent Thomas was sworn December 30 to serve as Justice of the Peace Precinct No 5 starting January 1 1986. He offered resignation last Monday January 10 and the Comanche County Commissioners Court appointed L T Lewis to the post.

Fire destroys two Durham warehouses in Comanche area

A Thursday fire in Comanche destroyed two Durham Wholesale chemical warehouses south of the town. Firefighters treated for smoke inhalation as crews foam the area to curb toxic fumes. EPA, state health, water and wildlife officials surveyed Friday to assess chemical runoff, with ditches dammed and no chemicals reaching Indian Creek.

Parker sworn in as Texas House district 65 representative

Jim Parker of De Leon was sworn in as the new representative for the 65th Texas House district covering Comanche Eastland Brown Coleman Runnels and McCulloch counties. A 37 year old attorney and farmer he trained at Tarleton State University and the University of Houston Law Center before returning to practice in Comanche.

Grand jury sworn for first 1963 session in 220th District Court

On Monday morning January 17 the first 220th District Court grand jury was sworn for the year 1963 and began its first session, planned to present 40 cases for consideration.

Willtrout Indicted on Weapons Charge in Dallas Case

Jack Willtrout, 40, a former Blanket Schoolteacher, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Dallas for possession of an unregistered automatic weapon an M 16. He posted one personal recognizance bond. Arraignment is set for January 21 with trial slated for late February or early March. The felony charge carries a maximum penalty.

Retired De Leon man Robert Kay built success from little

Desire and resolve carried Robert Kay from a sixth grade start in De Leon to a career in television sales. Born 1907, he left school for health and finances, taught himself to read via the Book of Knowledge, Dyke’s Auto Encyclopedia, and Radio and News Magazine, studied radio through the 1930s and 1940s, and began in television sales after a 1941 car breakdown ended farming. The tale ends as he moves toward a new chapter after decades of self education and work.
