Roy Butler Leaves 55-Year Barbering Career in De Leon
Roy Butler, 78, retires after a half century as a barber in De Leon dating back to 1925. Born July 10, 1904 in Beattie Texas, he married Hattie Wright in 1924 and raised three children. He taught singing in the San Angelo area, built kitchen cabinets and a bar, crafted three fiddles, gardens vegetables, and enjoyed woodworking, candleholders, and community respect.

Town Talk: Local Stock Show Opens With 174 Entries

The De Leon Livestock Project Show is set for Saturday January 15 at the new show barn east of the festival grounds. Bo Caraway of Gorman High School will judge. Show begins at 8:30 am with swine and goats before lunch and lambs and cattle after. Entries total 174 from 43 De Leon FFA and 45 H members, vs last year’s 244.

The 48th Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show runs January 20 and 21 with 525 entries from 280 4-H and FFA members. Judging starts 8:30 a.m. Thursday with market swine, breeding swine, lambs, and sheep, followed by dairy heifer sale and goat, beef, and steer events. The 25th Annual Auction Sale is Friday at McDougal's Auction Barn.

Grand jury ends probe of Comanche officials
The Comanche County grand jury adjourned last Thursday without indictments against former district attorney Leslie Vance. Vance and Comanche County Sheriff Shilo Garman faced a grand jury probe into reports of county jail prisoners working without supervision in the county jail.
