1980 Peanut Crop Support Levels And Sales Policy Announced

Secretary of Agriculture Bob Bergland announced national average support levels for 1980 crop quota peanuts at 455 dollars per short ton and 250 dollars per short ton for 1980 crop additional peanuts. The quota level rises 35 dollars from 1979, while the add-on price falls from 300 dollars due to expected lower oil and meat prices. Policy sets CCC sale minimums at 105 or 107 percent of the loan value for domestic use, with special rules for harvest-season purchases and exports, and imposes export restrictions on oil-derived peanut products and crushing exports.

Review Period In Progress For Nation's Soil Programs

The U S Department of Agriculture is one month into a 60 day review of proposals to restructure soil conservation programs. Comanche SCS official Truman Renshaw says the public can view findings and proposals at local USDA offices until March 28. Public comments should be sent by March 28 to RCA Response Analysis Center Athens Georgia 30603.

Filing Deadline Set for City Hospital and School Elections

March 5 1980 is the last day to file for local city hospital and school elections. Election day is Saturday April 5. Incumbents include Mayor Doyle Smith and Commissioner Bettie Hall with Smith filing for mayor. Hospital board terms of Fred D Williams and W H Smith Jr expire with no filings. ISD board terms Neal Morris Jack Johnson Jake Morris expire with no filings. Election judges are Dewey Daniels for hospital at De Leon Public Library, Terrill H Sharp for City Hall, Bob Huddleston at City Hall box and L E Clark at Desdemona box.

Track Season Begins Saturday at Rising Star

The 1980 season opens this Saturday March 1 with a Rising Star meet. Field events start 10:00 a.m. prelims at 12:00 noon and finals at 4:00 p.m. De Leon has no meets this year due to funds to re-mark or re-surface the track. Bids For Comanche Courtroom Remodeling Review

Comanche County Commissioners are to meet again Monday to consider bids on remodeling the 220th District Courtroom. Higginbotham Lumber Co bid 25382 for window glass and ceiling work while Wilson Glass and Mirror Co bid 30000. Work includes lowering the ceiling repairing windows and adding air conditioning plus a jury room and back office.

Navy Achievement Medal Awarded to Jodie Kimmell

Jodie Kimmell secretary to Justice of the Peace L T Lewis received the Navy Achievement Medal from Captain Mark Smith in Abilene. The presentation honors her meritorious service from 1976 to 1980 with duties as secretary to two Marine Corps Commanding Generals and later in the Division Adjutant Word Processing Center.

Census takers sought at De Leon City Hall

Billy G. Yabrough, manager of the 1980 Abilene census office, said census takers are needed and should apply at De Leon City Hall at 9:00 a.m. on February 28 to take a written test. Training starts March 11 for a three week period with potential return work in late April.

Peanut Meeting Thursday Night in F M Bank Room

A meeting for peanut producers and interested persons will be held Thursday night February 28 at 7 00 p m in the F and M Bank Community Room. Nematologist Mike Huddleston of the Texas Department of Agriculture and soil consultant John Ed Brothers of Brookside Laboratories Stephenville will conduct the meeting. The program includes infrared aerial photography slides from before the 1979 harvest and guidance on nematicide and fungicide rates and methods.
