Sore muscles and blistered feet mark local basketball practice as Booster Club members and All Star women prepare for a benefit game Saturday to raise funds for the Bret Sharp Scholarship. Practices run Monday and Thursday with women at 6 00 p.m. and men at 8 00 p.m. in De Leon.
Wm G Parker was named manager of Comanche County Electric Cooperative on February 7 1975 succeeding W J Parks who died January 30 He has 22 years as Office Manager Staff Assistant with the Coop and 6 years with Freese and Nichols He and his wife Elouise have four children and he serves as Comanche Chamber of Commerce director and Gideons International member The co op serves 8500 members on 3800 miles of line across four counties and faces high fuel costs with prices spiking but expects relief and continued growth in new service requests
The De Leon Chamber of Commerce Board met February 10 to elect officers. Deral Brown becomes president, his wife Nancy leads the Women's Division, Wess Harper is vice president, Robert Hodges is treasurer, and Hamm Locke serves as secretary.
The De Leon High School and Jr High music departments present The Saga of Western America on Sunday February 23, 1975 in the High School Auditorium. Admission is 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for students and children with tickets from band members or at the door. The piece by James D. Ployhar features band, chorus, narrator and square dancers and depicts westward expansion as part of the bi centennial celebration.
The De Leon Fire Department elected new officers for two years at a regular meeting. Charles Nabors was named President, Keith Chapman Vice President, Joe Ripley Treasurer, Deral Brown Security, Wess Harper Reporter, James Orwell Chief, Gary Wilson Assistant Chief, and Arvil Setzler Civil Defense. sworn in by Deral Brown. Congressman Burleson notes in the President's Budget the Army Engineers Civil Works Program includes 430000 for Proctor Lake for 1976 and 105000 for the 1976 Transition Quarter.
The 65 Club of F M Bank hosted a February 10 gathering for about 150 members. Attendees enjoyed toe tapping gospel singing, a Valentine themed room, sandwiches and snacks, and door prizes of candy and comic valentines. Tommy Gray led as Master of Ceremonies and John Weaver outlined retirement program options.
Reserved seats for the 1975 76 football season are on sale at the Superintendent's Office for $5.00, guaranteeing a reserved seat inside the 40 yard line. Renewals for 1973 74 holders must be completed by February 24, after which seats are released to the public in De Leon. Attending members hail from Cisco Eastland German Dublin Desdemona Comanche and De Leon with hostesses from F M Bank listed.
