Kittens Clinch 10 A District Title In Defeat Of Goldthwaite

DHL Kittens beat Goldthwaite 49 41 in Brownwood to claim the 10 A District. Kelly Mitchell scored 27 points and Terri Van Zandt added 17 as Peri Lou Short Shirlee Riggs and Barbara Lewis anchored defense. Kittens advance to bi district vs Robert Lee, with a Friday practice game likely.

Kittens Set Second-Round Title Tilt With Ranger Win

De Leon DHS Kittens clinched the 10 A second round championship by defeating Ranger 48 37 in a pressure filled game. Kelly Mitchell led with 22 points while Terri Van Zandt added 14 and Peggy Nowlin 11 as the squad stretched winning streak to six.

De Leon Chamber Banquet Set for February 28

The De Leon Chamber of Commerce and Womens Division announce their annual banquet on February 28, 1976 at 7:30 p.m. at PAR Country Club. Joy Culwell, writer for the Abilene Reporter News and host of a Colorado City radio program, will speak. The event includes board member presentations and Citizen and Agricultural Citizen of the Year awards. tickets go on sale at the Chamber office. A note invites readers to mark February 19, 1976 at 7:30 for a preview meal and entertainment.

Postmasters Meet at Par Country Club Dinner

A dinner meeting of the 764 post office group was held at PAR Country Club on Friday at 7 00 p m hosted by C L Mahon Fort Worth Sectional Center 764 Postmaster and Secretary Treasurer. John Rose Albany Texas State President of the National Association of Postmasters gave the main address and led a Q A session. A buffet for about 35 attendees followed with music by a Comanche string band.

The De Leon Independent School District schedules a trustee election for April 3 1976 to fill three board seats including two three year terms and a one year term. Filing closes March 3 1976 for qualified voters residing in the district. Election judge and clerks named with absentee voting dates set March 15 to March 30 at the High School office.

Bearcats Take District Lead After Two Victories

De Leon Bearcats sit first in the district after two wins last week. They beat Ranger 33-22 with Craig Smith scoring 15 and Daryl Ward 8, then a 69-52 home win over Dublin Lions as Ward led with 19. Five starters played the entire game.

Booster Club Sponsors Basketball Games March Fund Event

The De Leon Booster Club will sponsor a Coaches vs Booster Club basketball game on March 2 for the Bret Sharp Memorial Fund. Men must be Booster Club members with a February 18 deadline. Wednesday practice 7:30 p.m. at the gym. A ladies game is planned with practice at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Fort Worth Stock Show winners and placings noted

The Fort Worth Fat Stock Show judged car cass steer winners with Marlin Priddy earning champion Shorthorn carcass steer and Joey Mahan taking third with a Charolais carcass steer. Junior Steer Show results include two steers for Joey Mahan and a Hereford steer placing third for Mark McKillip. Heifer show saw Marlin Priddy’s three Shorthorn heifers placing ninth, eleventh, and thirteenth. De Leon FFA 4 H members also posted several class placings. Parrallel livestock results list Beaty, Davis, Lopez, Preston, Straub and Nowlin in various barrow and lamb classes.
