Two School Board Members To Be Elected April 6

The De Leon Independent School District Board of Trustees orders a trustee election for Saturday April 6 to fill expiring terms of Phil Barnes and Polly Caraway. Roy Thomas serves as Election Judge and Betty Terrill as absentee ballot clerk. Polling places are De Leon City Hall and Desdemona School. Filing applications available from the school administration office with a March 6 deadline.

De Leon Receives Donated Fire Station Lot

C M Caraway III donates a lot 100 feet deep by half a block wide on Labadie Street for a new fire station and possible police office. City officials report no charges to De Leon for the land aside from abstract costs. An appraisal is underway. The city anticipates library relocation to the old fire station as improvements proceed.

Scouting Celebrates 75th Anniversary Week in 1969

The De Leon area joins National Boy Scouts of America in marking Diamond Jubilee as February 3 to 9 honors Scouting. Comanche Trail Council serves eight counties with 1,288 youth members and 693 volunteer leaders, while Shaping Tomorrow guides newer methods. Scout Sunday was February 3 and Scout Sabbath February 9, with programs recognizing community support and ethical youth development.

District Judge Reports Record Criminal Activity in 1984

Judge James E. Morgan of the 220th District Court notes that three counties filed more new criminal cases in 1984 than any year since 1977, with filings about 50 percent above 1983 levels. The report shows 135 defendants tried, 44 imprisoned, 69 placed on probation, $380,000 in total payments, and shifts in county shares of litigation.

Proctor Area Recreation Club to Elect Directors

The Proctor Area Recreation Country Club will hold its annual membership meeting on Wednesday February 12 at 7 p.m. in the main dining room. Five directors will be elected: two from De Leon, one from Comanche, one from Dublin, and one at large. De Leon Youth at Fort Worth Stock Show Highlights

De Leon FFA and 4H members exhibited at the Fort Worth Stock Show. Greg Priddy earned 6th in middleweight Shorthorn steer and Craig Mahan 10th in heavyweight Hereford. Other exhibitors included Mike Mahan, Brian Babbitt, Brian Weaver, David Welch, Annette Priddy, and Leslie Morris with various sheep and swine placements among a long list of participants.

USDA Extends Peanut Loan Eligibility Period

Farmers in the Southwestern Peanut Growers Association area gain an extension to March 1 to place warehouse stored peanuts under government loans due to severe winter weather. The deadline for on farm stored loans remains January 31, and disaster transfer provisions also extend to March 1.
