Craig's Jewelry Window and City Hall Doors Damaged

Last Wednesday night the front doors of De Leon City Hall and the display window of Craig's Jewelry were damaged between midnight and 1:00 a.m. on the 23rd. A 12 gauge shotgun blasted City Hall doors while a heavy object damaged the jewelry store. The alarm alerted police and investigators say they have leads in the attempted burglary or vandalism.

De Leon Free Press Raises Subscription Rates

The De Leon Free Press announces a rate increase effective January 1 1977 due to higher expenses. New yearly rates are 7.35 in Comanche County 8.40 outside the county in Texas and 10.50 outside Texas with tax included. Newsstands rise to 20 cents per copy.

Three Charged in Tire Damage Case in De Leon

An adult and two juveniles face charges after extensive tire damage in De Leon spanning Christmas Eve into Christmas morning. Heaviest losses cited by Vincent Garza and Robert Hodges. The adult posted 2500 dollar bond. juveniles released to parents. Open House Held at Southern Savings De Leon Office

Southern Savings and Loan hosted an Open House at its De Leon office on Wednesday December 21 from 1 to 4 pm. About one hundred attendees visited Santa Claus and met Brownwood representatives including W R McCullough and several vice presidents. The De Leon office is managed by Evelyn Hare and the association operates offices in De Leon Brownwood Comanche Goldthwaite and Lampasas.

New Kodak Analyst 16mm Projector Donated to De Leon Schools

The Farmers and Merchants Bank of De Leon presented the athletic department with a new non-sound Kodak Analyst 16mm projector. It plays forward and backward and was made for football films, replacing an old worn-out unit.

Meet Mike Thompson Fireman of the Week

Mike Thompson a 1967 Hamilton High School graduate is this week’s Fireman of the Week. A veteran of the Army who served in Vietnam he later worked for Gulf States United Telephone in Hamilton and for a cable TV firm in Nacogdoches before joining Comanche County Telephone in De Leon where he has worked four years. He is an Installing Repairman and a three and a half year De Leon Volunteer Fire Department member married to Carolyn Coston with two daughters Carrie Ann and Jodie. He is completing state fireman training and enjoys hunting fishing and camping.
