Dr Pete Bradfield becomes pastor of First Baptist Church of De Leon succeeding his eight year tenure at Throckmorton church. He began December 21 and brings a background in retail management, theology training from Southwestern Seminary, and a Doctor of Theology degree. He and wife Lois have two daughters Debi and April. They reside at 615 Bowie Street parsonage.
After three days of basketball action Santa Anna Mountaineers beat Bangs Dragons 65-55 to claim the boys title. Comanche JV girls defeated Sidney 58-48 for the girls crown. De Leon Kittens took third with a 38-35 win over Mullin. Consolation: Santa Anna girls 36-33 Reagan County. Sidney boys 45-37 Mullin. All-tournament teams honor players from Santa Anna, De Leon, Sidney, Reagan County, Comanche, Bangs.
Peanut products will cost more and may become scarce due to a drought reducing U S edible grade peanut production by about 50 percent nationally and about 45 percent in Texas. The 1980 81 supply totals about 2.5 billion pounds, a 20 percent deficit versus demand, with imports and larger grower allotments planned to mitigate the shortfall.

Honorable mentions include Carla Files, Rachel Garcia, Sonia Sapien, Michael Rice, Randy Turner, Karla Cook, and Manon Locke among many other entries.
