Former De Leon Man Dies by Suicide in Alabama

Word reached De Leon that L. S. Stewart a former resident of Duster and De Leon area was found dead with a gun nearby at his Dadville Alabama home. He was 55 years old with a widow and several children surviving. He had been despondent and in failing health for some time.

Elza Perry Jr joins training at Tyndall AFB Florida

Lt. Elza Perry Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Elza Perry Sr. of De Leon, reports to Tyndall Air Force Base Florida to begin eight to ten weeks of Aircraft Controller School training. The program supports the Air Defense Team and Tactical Air and Army Combat Team.

3 Percent Hire Indicated In Peanut Acreage

Eastland County peanut farmers expect a 3 percent increase in peanut acreage for 1955, reaching about 32 000 acres. ACP administrator E E Powell said allotments have been mailed to all peanut farmers and mailing was completed this week.

Thousands flocked to town last Saturday to meet Santa Claus and add items to their wish lists. Candy and fruit and nut packages were handed out to lucky attendees, making it one of the largest crowds since the Peach and Melon Festival.

Mr. Fannin Dies After Surgery in Washington DC

W. L. Lee Fannin died December 1 in a Washington hospital, just 24 hours after heart surgery. Survived by wife, father Sam Fannin, three brothers, four sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral attended near Ranger Friday by Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Moorhead and daughter Mrs. Grady Ritter of Big Spring. Fannin was a nephew of Mrs. Moorhead.

New Daughter Born to Mr and Mrs Slaughter

Mr and Mrs Roy Slaughter of Midland welcomed a baby girl named Nell on Saturday December 18. The newborn weighed five pounds six ounces and is the couple’s fourth child, joining three siblings. De Leon residents attended Tarleton College Collegiate Choirs Christmas Candlelight Concert on Thursday evening December 16. Miss Parsons Appears in Tarleton Piano Recital

James Loyd Kay born April 24, 1889 in Central Texas died December 14, 1954 at German Hospital aged 65. Funeral service at First Baptist Church December 15, 1954 with Rev.
