Gayle Wilkerson notes Bearcats reached the state championship after a standout win over Seagraves and a Saturday clash with Barbers Hill in Waco. A Friday pep rally at Robert Hodges Pecan House invites fans to join the caravan to the game.
The Mighty Maroon Bearcats seek a second straight Class A state football championship at Midway Stadium in Waco. They face Barbers Hill Eagles after defeating Seagraves 21-12 in the semifinals, while Barbers Hill beat Mart 30-0 to reach the final.
Tickets for the De Leon Barbers Hill state football championship game are available at the De Leon school office. Adult tickets are 3.00 and student tickets 1.50 in advance, 3.50 adults and 1.50 students at the gate. The game starts at 8 00 p m at Waco Midway Panther Stadium near Waco.
Santa to attend City Hall on December 21 at 6 30 p m with suggestions for Christmas. Ladies Division of the Chamber of Commerce offers refreshments and a growing prize raffle. Auction funds aid the Guy Tidwell family and proceeds buy new street signs for De Leon. Donations due by 5 00 p m on the 21st.
Mrs. Allene Box wins five dollars in the football contest for the week with a single miss. Ed Glover Jr and Hadley Scott tie for second and third, each earning two dollars and fifty cents. Other two-miss entrants include N L Box Ricky Snider Christi Keith Nina Leonard Donald Nowlin Jim Farley and P J McClellan.
The De Leon Police Department reports three dogs died last week from strychnine poisoning. Boxes of bologna and candy laced with poison have been found in yards near the housing project. Police urge anyone with information to contact city authorities due to danger to small children.
The Bearcat pep rally is scheduled for Friday night at 7 00 p m at Hodges Pecan House. A caravan will depart the Field House Saturday at 4 00 p m for the trip to Waco.
Comanche County Sheriff W. G. (Shilo) Garmon attended a Texas law enforcement school held in Austin last week. Sessions covered jail rules, standards, supreme court rulings, and education. Attendees included officers from DPS FBI Secret Service and more.
De Leon Texas police recovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia after tips led to a Tuesday raid in the Archie Town area. Three local residents were charged with possession. bonds set at 5000 for a man and 1000 for a woman, a minor’s charges were dismissed.
De Leon volunteer Ray Hooker named Fireman of the Week. A central office repairman with Comanche County Telephone since 1972 he joined the De Leon Fire Department two years ago after earlier work at LTV. He and his wife Lynn Waggoner live at 204 Mills Street with sons Brent and Barry.
