Congressman Poage champions expansion of the USDA Pecan Field Station in Brownwood. He works with Jamie Whitten and Governor Briscoe to secure federal funds for more land and new buildings as the station, the nation’s only pecan breeding center, advances breeding, disease resistance, and global outreach.
The De Leon sixth grade beginner band junior high band and Mighty Maroon high school band perform Christmas and other songs Sunday December 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Band director is Mr. Don Halbrook. Admission will be charged.
The De Leon Police Department bans parking in alleys and will issue fines for violations. The move aims to keep alleys clear for emergency response and fire trucks. Citizens’ cooperation is requested in these efforts.
Comanche County accounted for 2,249,300 of Texas 6,075,952,000 in 1976 travel receipts, a 14 percent rise from 1975. The county held 85 of the state's 227,258 travel jobs with a 444,900 payroll and paid 89,400 in state and 19,100 in local taxes. The study, by U S Travel Data Center, uses the Travel Economic Impact Model to map county by county travel dollars and jobs. Frank Hildebrand, T T D A executive director, notes improved techniques allow targeted growth and pattern observation.
De Leon I S D hosts NASA lecture demonstration by Fred Kubesch, Aerospace Education Specialist from Johnson Space Center. The program covers NASA space exploration roles, includes 50 minute assemblies on rockets satellites and spaceflight, with follow up classroom visits, free of charge. Presented Thursday December 15 at 1 30 p m in De Leon High School Auditorium.
The De Leon Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Thursday 6:00 p.m. City Hall event headlined by Santa Claus. Children can place toy orders, prizes will be drawn with tickets available at local merchants. The Women’s Division serves stew and pie from 5:30 p.m., and many stores stay open until 8:00 p.m.

The Texas AFL-CIO executive board on November 4 1977 voted to support American Agriculture in their bid for collective bargaining to maintain their way of life and ensure a steady supply of food and fiber. David Samuelson urged the board to back the effort in a published appeal.
Colonel John F. Wall outlines the federal non federal dam inspection plan for Texas. The three part program inventories dams, classifies hazards, inspects high hazard structures and defines remedial measures to ensure safety, with state and dam owners retaining responsibilities.
The Comanche County Sheriff's Department logs eight burglaries eleven thefts three vandalisms two criminal mischief charges one assault one drowning and one miscellaneous for twenty seven major calls. Deputies served twenty four warrants and thirty seven civil papers. After hour calls totaled one hundred twenty four.

Mr Pickens fourth grade class and student teacher Mrs Susie Fagan built a paper mache chicken sculpture named Super Chicken. They began in September and finished in December with weekly art sessions.
