Mrs. V V Bell Celebrates 99th Birthday in De Leon
Mrs. V V Bell marked her 99th birthday on December 4 at home in De Leon after a life devoted to sewing for orphaned children and supporting veterans. Born in 1881 near Dublin and Stephenville, she worked in De Leon stores and helped raise four children, remaining active through crafting, gardening, and church choir work. She credits the good Lord for her longevity and continues to donate to charity and enjoy life at 309 East Alamante.

Patton Named Precinct 2 Comanche County Commissioner
Clodah Patton widow of Billy Patton was sworn in by County Judge Johnny Livingston as Comanche County Commissioner of Precinct 2. She becomes the county's first woman on the Commissioners Court and will serve out her late husband’s term until the November 1982 election. Patton, a six year commissioner, holds degrees from Howard Payne University and retired in 1976 after 42 years teaching in Pettit and Gustine. She has also worked in the McDougal Auction Barn accounting office.

Christmas Band Concert To Be Presented Sunday Afternoon
The De Leon bands directed by Don Halbrook present the annual Christmas concert at 2 30 p m Sunday December 14 in First. The Sixth Grade Band of 40 members opens with five numbers followed by the 65 member Junior High Band, then the 78 member Mighty Maroon Band closes with seven selections. A small admission charge.

Peanut farmers vote December on marketing quota extension
U.S. peanut growers vote December 8 to 11 on continuing the national marketing quota plan for 1981 to 1983. If two thirds approve, nearly 3.2 billion pounds of peanuts could be eligible for loan supports. Secretary Bergland cites a 1981 quota of 2.88 billion pounds with potential 300 million more if extended.
