Sheriff Department Activity Report

On November 25 a camper trailer was stolen from the Comyn area. It was recovered November 30 near a cemetery in Hasse by DPS Trooper Koenig. Eighteen Mexican nationals were taken into custody and turned over to Border Patrol. One man charged with having no driver license. Officers arrested the group about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at a roadside park near the Leon River bridge on Highway 377 northeast of Comanche.

Donkey Basketball Game Saturday at DHS High School

On December 6 the DHS Student Council sponsors a Donkey Basketball Game at 8 p.m. in the high school gym. Godfrey's Donkeys from Crescent Oklahoma perform with senior boys facing De Leon sports boosters. Ten donkeys, a trained mule act, races for girls and boys, plus a hobby donkey derby. FTA runs a concession stand.

Merchants Plan Christmas Night Shopping Event

De Leon Girls Face Cross Plains In Thursday Tourney

The Kitten and Bearcat basketball teams compete in the Cross Plains Tournament this Thursday through Saturday with games against Bangs Early San Saba Gordon Brooksmith and Cross Plains. If victorious, De Leon girls would meet the Gordon Brooksmith winner at 10:50 A.M. Saturday and the boys follow. If eliminated Thursday, both Bearcats and Kittens play Saturday morning with girls at 8:10 A.M. Finals are 7:00 and 8:30 P.M. Saturday.

City urges removal of materials from yards

Under the Community Development Block Grant the city of De Leon plans codes to remove abandoned cars iron equipment lumber and other materials in front and side yards. The city will move trash abandoned vehicles and other material at no cost to owners and refund any salvage revenue to the owner. Citizens may contact the city office to have material removed.

Peanut bonus rises to 1150 for 70 grade peanuts

December 1 report shows a buyer paying a $1150 per ton net weight bonus for Segregation I peanuts grading 70 or higher. Other grades receive 850 for 60–69, 750 for 50–59, and 650 for 49 or lower. Damaged peanuts go to Segregation II with 150 for 60+ and 100 for lower, while harvest runs fast and many fields remain unharvested.

First Peanut Report Released For The County

The Comanche County ASCS Office released the first peanut harvest report. It covers 155 farms, 26 with no harvest, total acreage 5,345.4 acres, 6,024,502 pounds harvested, an average of 1,127 pounds or 37.6 bushels per acre. Last year figures were 37,602.8 acres and 64,800,261 pounds at 1,723 pounds or 57 bushels per acre.

Nine members of the Mighty Maroon Band from De Leon and other North Zone schools compete for All District Band in Stephenville at Stephenville High School starting 9:00 a.m. on December 6. Includes names of players and instruments. regional contest follows on December 13 at Tarleton State University with Don Halbrook as De Leon band director.
