Peach and Melon Festival praised by Gayle Wilkerson panel
Gayle Wilkerson thanks the Peach and Melon Festival Committee and volunteers for a record festival success. The paper presents about twenty three camera collages of the week’s events and wishes readers memories of the 1979 festival. Rains dropped 4 to 5 inches aiding crops and irrigation, with minor damage but overall good harvest prospects. De Leon schools begin Monday August 27 and tickets for home football games go on sale before September 1.

Peach and Melon Festival Auction Tops Last Year’s Total
The Peach and Melon Festival auction drew buyers led by Farmers and Merchants Bank of De Leon spending $445.00 and De Leon Peanut Company at $385.00. Numerous bidders purchased cantaloupes, peaches, apples, pears, and cakes, with totals listed for each participant and organization. The event raised a combined sum of $3,405.00, exceeding last year’s $2,016.00.
