The De Leon Chamber of Commerce will hold a membership meeting on Thursday April 28 at 7 30 p m in the F and M Bank Community Room.
Rock Bluff Baptist Church announces its annual all day singing on Sunday May 1 starting at 10:00 a.m. A basket lunch will be served at noon.
Central Texas Opportunities Inc based in Coleman leads a weatherization program with the Texas Department of Human Resources. The effort funds storm doors and windows insulation and caulking to conserve energy with priority to elderly and handicapped residents. Comanche County Heart Association sponsors a Trail Buster Trail Ride this Saturday, April 30, 1 to 5 p.m., starting at Mercer's Gap Church. Ten miles. trail monitors are Comanche Roping Club members. Prizes include saddle gear and gift certificates. T shirts for donors of $25, hats for $10. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association. donations due by May 7 to Dr. Gary Easley or Kerry Dudley.
De Leon Bearcats swept two divisions and seventh graders the other as District 12 AA meet results show varsity 167 points and JV 208 with Dublin, Hico, and Ranger trailing. standout athletes include Saldivar with wins in long jump and 1600 relay, Sanders in 300 hurdles, and Harper's 1600 victory.
Howard Payne University judges selected the 1983 84 De Leon Schools cheerleaders. Head high school cheerleader is senior Vickie Higginbottom. Junior high head Debbi Frank with eighth graders Kim Caraway and Denise Weaver. seventh graders Dovie Hardin and Darla Files.
State Comptroller Bob Bullock released a study showing about 30 percent of total state sales tax and up to 40 percent of Houston city sales tax tied to the oil industry. The report notes direct oil company payments, worker spending, and indirect contributions, with Houston and Dallas shouldering most of the impact.
The De Leon Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a dance Saturday April 30 at De Leon city hall at 7 p.m. The Comanche County Bandana Band will play and BBQ sandwiches chips and drinks will be served 6 to 9 p.m. Northside Baptist Church De Leon hosts revival Sunday May 1 through Friday May 6 with dinner on the grounds after the Sunday service. Services start nightly at 7 p.m. Evangelist C O Herchenhahn of Valley Grove Baptist Stephenville and Gordon Moore of Calvary Baptist Oak Cliff Dallas will lead the singing. A well staffed nursery will be available each service.
Crime Stoppers paid $100 for information that led to the arrest and indictment of a person charged with a felony crime in Comanche County. The payout marks the program's first payoff in this county.
A representative from Comptroller Bob Bullock's office will be in Comanche on April 28 from 10 to 11 a.m. to assist with state tax questions and forms. The Brownwood Office serves several counties and operates 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 300 North Main Building Suite J. phone 915 643-1557.
Lori Womack will participate in the Girls State Track Meet in Austin on May 7 after placing second in the 100 meter hurdles at the Region II-AA meet in Stephenville. Her 17.03 clocking came in a brisk north wind. she also took part in the high jump. De Leon Kittens relay teams and several others from Womack's group competed across relay and sprint events.
