Fatal head-on collision near De Leon claims Setzlers

Mr and Mrs Clyde Setzler, longtime Oliver Springs residents, were killed in a head-on crash on Highway 16 south of De Leon Friday about 11:30 am. A truck driven by Jerry Don Mayhar of Abilene was northbound. Mayhar was treated and released at De Leon Hospital.

New Standards Set For Public Water

TDHR imposes 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act standards effective June 24 for public and private water systems. Systems serving 25+ people or 15+ connections and used 60 days yearly must submit monthly samples for analysis and be operated by a state accredited entity.

De Leon boys finish third behind Bangs and Goldthwaite in Brownwood district 10-A track. Seven De Leon athletes qualify for the Stephenville regional. Toby Hare wins shot put and discus, with 51'8 1/4 and 152'2" distances. Joe Bob Huddleston and Sig Wolfe win 120 high hurdles and 330 intermediate hurdles respectively. Junior varsity and junior high squads sweep with multiple event wins and relay titles.

Kelly Mitchell Sets Regional Hurdles Record at Tarleton

Kelly Mitchell won the 80 yard hurdles at the Region II-A track meet held Saturday at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. She posted a season best and regional record time of 10.9 seconds and advances to the state meet in Austin on May 7. Terri Van Zandt contributed the Kittens' other points with a fourth place long jump of 17 feet 7 inches.

De Leon to Host Girls State Qualifiers Meet

De Leon will host the Girls State Qualifiers Track Meet this Friday April 29. Field events start at 4 00 p m and finals at 7 00 p m with no preliminaries. Participants from Class B A and AA schools in central Texas qualified for the state meet in Austin May 6 7. Kelly Mitchell the regional 80 yard hurdles winner in Stephenville Saturday will be the only Kitten entry.

Little League Teams Set for 1977 Season

De Leon Baseball Association met April 21 at the F and M Bank Hospitality Room where Wayne Sanders presided. Teams were age-drafted by sponsoring groups and local boys may sign up by May 17 except new residents. No Little League play June 12 to 18 due to Boy Scout Camp. List of teams to begin May 1.
