Southside Church of Christ on Highway 16 South announces gospel meetings from April 28 to May 5. Sunday services at 10 30 a m and 6 p m. Weeknight services at 7 30 p m. Evangelist Bob Johnson of Bloomington Indiana will speak.
The Royal Ambassadors and the Brotherhood of the Northside Baptist Church invite all to a Friday night 7 p.m. fish fry at the church. Tickets are charged to help expenses and may be bought at the door or from church men and boys. The event promotes Christian fellowship with a special performance by a group of fishermen.
April 27 marks the 50th anniversary of the U S Soil Conservation Service highlighting the efforts of more than two million farmers ranchers and landowners. Texas reports about 200 000 landowners using SCS aid with 220 000 miles of terraces 2.9 million acres of cropland under conservation tillage and 13 million acres of grassland under planned grazing. SCS operates through 201 local soil and water conservation districts and emphasizes enduring partnerships among federal state and local groups to reduce erosion conserve water limit floods and protect natural resources.
Out-of-town judges selected the Mighty Maroon Band for 1985 86 after April 12 try outs naming April Cleere Kayla Holland and Lacy Wright as twirlers and Kelli Cook as captain with Jenna Dixon Wendy Boswell Annette Priddy Wendy Dutton Leslie Williams Dana Bruton and Denise Weaver as flag corps. Junior High twirlers are Jennifer Sanders Sharon Fleming Christina Howard and Rebecca Schwesig.

Russell Cordell 43 of Gorman is hospitalized at Hendrick Medical Center Abilene after a single engine Cessna 152 crash while on pipeline patrol north of Roby. The wreckage pierced a tree and leaked fuel, narrowly missing a nearby house, with Cordell seated in the right seat and pulled free by bystanders. Cordell, a former Abilene police officer, is married to Wilma, an employee of Crown Pump in De Leon.
The Texas Highway Patrol reports ten rural traffic incidents investigated in March, under Sergeant Harpole. These accidents caused one death and two injuries. Yearly rural crashes total 28 in Comanche County, with one death and ten injuries.

President Reagan designated Thursday May 2 as the nations thirty third National Day of Prayer. Americans are urged to take five minutes at noon to thank God and pray for blessing on the nation and leaders. Observance is voluntary and citizens are called to gather in homes and places of worship.
McGregor swept both boys and girls divisions at the District 14-AA meet at Glen Rose. De Leon finished fourth in each division and earned five regional qualifiers for May 3 and 4 at Tarleton. Mary Ann Gonzales and Darren Scott each notched two wins, with Mary Ann winning discus and shot put, Darren Scott taking the 3200 and 1600.
The first Comanche County Kids Health and Safety Fair drew over 337 parents and youths Saturday at De Leon City Hall. Volunteers from the Extension Service Family Living Committee 4‑H Leaders and Sheriff Department staff staffed booths, offered eye tests, anemia and diabetes screenings, blood pressure checks, and nutrition information. Clowns provided festive atmosphere as car seat demos and safety films highlighted child safety.
