De Leon Sidewalk Sale and Local Events Notice

Community announcements urge attendance at a Saturday sidewalk sale sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce with merchants displaying items. A cafe stand by the Women’s Division supports the event. Toby Hare to Play in North South All Star Game

Toby Hare son of Mr and Mrs C J Hare of De Leon has been selected to participate in the North South All Star Football Game to be played in Dallas after the July 24 28 THSCA coaching school. Hare a tri captain in 1976 lettered three years and played guard and tackle. He earned all district all area all state and second team Super All State honors and led his team in fumble recoveries with four in 1976. He also excelled in basketball and track with a 164 6 discus throw.

Home Health Care Services Expands to Brownwood Sub-unit

Girling and Associates Home Health Care gains a Brownwood sub-unit after a January 6, 1977 Certificate of Need from the Texas Health Commission. The seven counties Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, McCulloch, Mills and San Saba gain access to skilled nursing, home health aides and social work with plans to add therapists.

Kitten Track Team Heads to Area Meet Saturday

Three Kitten track members compete in the area meet at Stephenville on April 23. Terri Van Zandt swept the district in triple and long jumps and was runner up in high jump. Kelly Mitchell won the 10-A 80 yard hurdles and Lisa Walker took the mile. Prelims start at 10:00 a.m. finals at 2:30 p.m.

May 5 6 kindergarten registration dates set

Registration for the 1977 78 kindergarten will be May 5 and 6 in the Kindergarten Building from 9 00 a.m. to 2 00 p.m. Children five years old on or before September 1 1977 are eligible. Bring immunization records and a birth certificate.

County Grants Education Funds To Comanche County

Congressman Omar Burle son announces a $128 963.71 Office of Education grant for Comanche County for fiscal year 1978 under Title I. Funds aid low income areas and neglected delinquent institutions to raise educational attainment. Availability begins July 1 1977 with state distribution to districts and at least 85 percent baseline.

Talkington Heads New Farm Bureau Insurance Office

Mack Talkington will head the Farm Bureau Insurance office on Highway 6 East. He has ten years in insurance nine in Lubbock and one in Brownwood and joined Farm Bureau March 1. He and his wife Joy have three sons and will move to De Leon area after working with Lubbock Fire Department nine years.

De Leon Officer Completes 240 Hour Training Course

Officer Albert G. Biggs of De Leon completed a 240 hour law enforcement and security training course at A and M University on April 15. He is the son of Mr and Mrs J G Biggs of Eastland.

City Runoff Election Slated This Saturday

The city council runoff is set for Saturday April 23 with polls from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Incumbent Wes Harper and challenger Mitchell Tate appear on the ballot.

De Leon Hosts Adult Track Meet Sponsored by Local Groups

Four organizations Lions Club Chamber of Commerce Women's Division and Peach and Melon Festival Committee sponsor an adult track meet on May 17 at 6 00 p.m. at De Leon Bearcat field to raise funds for a year round festival building. Admission 50 cents children 19 and over for events include bicycle races obstacle course relays tug of war low hurdles walking discus and shot put. The De Leon Decathlon Person will receive a trophy and publicity. Highlights include Wes Harper vs Donnie Nowlin obstacle course. More entries to be announced.

Four School Records Set At District Track Meet

The Kitten high school and junior high teams competed at the District 10-A meet at Tarleton State University Stephenville. Both teams placed third. Terri Van Zandt and Kelly Mitchell set new school records in triple jump and 80 yard hurdles respectively. The meet determined that the top two finishers in each event advance to the regional meet on April 23 at Tarleton.

Daylight Saving Time starts this Sunday April 23. Clocks should be set back one hour Saturday night to align with the new time.

The Comanche County ASCS office updates producers on ACP practice reporting, seed and fertilizer receipts filing, and the sign up window from April 25 to May 13 including aerial spraying. Bobby Gailey is appointed manager of JRB Grocery in De Leon after previously serving as Eastland assistant manager. A Eastland High School and Ranger Junior College graduate, he has three years with JRB and is moving to De Leon. He plans to meet local residents and serve the community. Gailey is a Baptist and single.

DHS Students to Enter UIL Literary Events at Tarleton

Five De Leon High School students will compete at Tarleton State University in regional UIL literary events this weekend. Friday participants include Robin Hood and Missy Owen in spelling Frances Lopez in Typing Byron Smith in ready writing and Donald Fields in slide rule. Saturday Byron Smith will compete in number sense.

De Leon High Stage Band Concert Tuesday April 26

The De Leon High School Stage Band will perform on Tuesday April 26 at 8:00 pm in the high school auditorium. Admission is 1.00 for adults and 0.75 for students, with proceeds funding new music for the band.
