De Leon High School shorthand team led by Jean Huddleston and Mackie Brumbelow earned top district scores in Stephenville. Huddleston took first with 99, Brumbelow second with 98.7 while Boswell and Coley placed in typing. The trio advance to the regional meet in Brownwood on April 23.
One hundred nine pupils in first and second grades received the initial Poliomyelitis Vaccine dose at De Leon Elementary School on Thursday at 1 PM. Ill children will receive injections later. Medical staff included Dr. Al M Reynolds Dr. P E Smith and teachers aides led by PTA volunteers who served refreshments.
Roy Dell Oglesby and Bobbie J Warren of De Leon are listed among Tarleton State College spring graduates. The 1956 class, per FE Tompkins Jr, includes 86 candidates, the largest since spring 1951, with Oglesby in the furniture division and Warren in arts and sciences.

Comanche County Farm Bureau leaders will attend a training clinic on Tuesday April 20 at the Brownwood Hotel in Brownwood. Cecil Fisher president of the county organization says the session is part of thirteen clinics statewide by the Texas Farm Bureau to train leaders for better member service and office administration. District Director B J Gist will lead with Leon M Lane and E C McMurray assisting. three classes will be taught. Attendance is limited to county president service committeemen secretary treasurer service agent and office secretary from each county in the district. The meeting runs from 10 00 a m to 3 30 p m.
Revival now in progress at the First Christian Church with Pastor James Eh. Hill leading nightly services at 7:30. Attendance appears strong as sessions continue through Sunday evening and invite all to attend.

Eleven pupils from De Leon Junior High School took part in Interscholastic League events in Stephenville last Friday. Jolene Rhsectti won first prize blue ribbon in declamation with How the Great Guest Came. Other entrants included Curtis Leslie Anna Marie George and Terry Nelson in number sense, with mixed scores.
The week long Baptist Revival closed Sunday evening with fourteen new members. ten by baptism and four by letter. Rev. Jeff Pritchard of Clarendon Drive Baptist Church Dallas delivered the messages. music and songs directed by Raymond L. White of Casa Heights Baptist Church Dallas accompanied services.

Communities invite all residents to view the work and tour the projects.

Coy Wendell Nelson son of Mr and Mrs Coy Nelson left last Wednesday for Fort Lee Virginia to attend Quartermaster School for eight weeks He completed basic training at Fort Ord California and received a 15 day furlough with 10 days spent in De Leon with home folk
Mr and Mrs Star Iazer and their son Jimmy spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Loy Hill and other relatives.
The Intermediate Department will lead services at the First Baptist Church on Sunday with aim of full attendance. An annual department picture will be taken before services. Last Sunday the department reported strong turnout with five visitors filling in for absent members. Mrs Irby led the 13 year girls class and Mr Irby led the 14 year boys class, both achieving 100 percent attendance. Two members from this department were baptized Sunday night.
A meeting is set for Monday night at 7 30 at City Hall for all Little League and Pony League sponsors. A film on little league baseball will be shown and business matters discussed. Lions Club pledged Aunt Jemima Pancake Supper proceeds to the Baseball Field program.

De Leon Chapter No 693 will hold a Chapter of Sorrow for deceased sisters and brothers and this Grand Jurisdiction Monday April 25 at 7 p.m.
Residents are invited to a Community Meet at the Beattie Community House on Friday night. Roy Butler and his De Leon string band will provide music as part of a planned program to support local efforts.
Beginning next week the Texas Electric Service Company will stage a cooking demonstration in De Leon titled Whats Cook in Week. Miss Joyce Chamber will present demonstrations Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. showing controlled heat on electric ranges and how to cook with a diffused low heat using a silk scarf as a demonstration between surface unit and pan. Demonstrations will compare electric ranges with other cooking methods and emphasize cleanliness and ease of use with electric cooking.
Liza Malinda Taylor Hood born February 1 1874 in Kentucky died April 14 1955 at German Hospital aged 81. Survived by three daughters and two sons with numerous grandchildren great grandchildren and siblings. Funeral services held April 16 at First Baptist De Leon with Rev Tommy Austin and others officiating.
