Local Students Win High Honors in District ILD Meet

De Leon High School shorthand team led by Jean Huddleston and Mackie Brumbelow earned top district scores in Stephenville. Huddleston took first with 99, Brumbelow second with 98.7 while Boswell and Coley placed in typing. The trio advance to the regional meet in Brownwood on April 23.

Second Grade Polio Vaccination Day At De Leon School

One hundred nine pupils in first and second grades received the initial Poliomyelitis Vaccine dose at De Leon Elementary School on Thursday at 1 PM. Ill children will receive injections later. Medical staff included Dr. Al M Reynolds Dr. P E Smith and teachers aides led by PTA volunteers who served refreshments.

Cecil Fisher president of the county organization says the session is part of thirteen clinics statewide by the Texas Farm Bureau to train leaders for better member service and office administration. Sun Intermediate Day At First Baptist Church

The Intermediate Department will lead services at the First Baptist Church on Sunday with aim of full attendance. An annual department picture will be taken before services. Last Sunday the department reported strong turnout with five visitors filling in for absent members. Electric Company to Stage Cooking Show Next Week

Beginning next week the Texas Electric Service Company will stage a cooking demonstration in De Leon titled Whats Cook in Week. Miss Joyce Chamber will present demonstrations Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. showing controlled heat on electric ranges and how to cook with a diffused low heat using a silk scarf as a demonstration between surface unit and pan. Demonstrations will compare electric ranges with other cooking methods and emphasize cleanliness and ease of use with electric cooking.
