Six-Year-Old Boy Dies in Comanche Beating Case

A six-year-old Comanche kindergartner, Eric Wayne Green, died from strangulation after being bound in the laundry room at his home. His four-year-old sister Terri was hospitalized with bruises and possible concussion. A 16-year-old girl, furloughed from a state home, was taken into custody as a suspect. Authorities and the judge planned a hearing as the case develops.

Nancy Roch has been chosen as the recipient of the 1972 73 John Philip Sousa Band Award. The honor is given to the graduating senior who shows outstanding achievement in instrumental music scholastic attainment and loyalty and cooperation to DHS. Cancer Crusade totals $500

Divorce Rate Trends Hit Comanche County

New figures show 25 divorced residents per 1000 over age 14 in Comanche County, lower than the national rate of 34 per 1000. Across the United States divorce has risen about 57 percent since 1960, with many marriages ending after initial vows.

Divorce rates rise as reunions fail amid rising separations

The census notes 115 divorced men and 121 divorced women locally with 37 per 1000 in Texas and 39 nationally. The share of divorces to marriages is at a high and for every three new marriages one ends. Breakups occur mainly among young couples with children, challenging the notion of preserving unhappy marriages for kids. Professor Paul Glasser from the University of Michigan comments on a shift away from keeping unhappy marriages for children.

Vandals Target Light Traps Hampering Peanuts Research

Agriculture Commissioner John C. White reports six light traps in the De Leon area have been vandalized, hindering study of the lesser cornstalk borer. De Leon Bears Take Second at Regional Golf Meet

De Leon finished second in Region II Class A at PAR Country Club in a 16 team field. Sonora won with 608, De Leon 653. Tad Tate led with 154 for two rounds while Mac Glazier 155 Marney Wilkerson 167 Bret Sharp 177 and Paul Tate 180 counted for the Bearcats. The best four of five scores counted. State Tournament moves to Austin this week.
