Highway Bids Sought in Brownwood District
Bids for seal coating about 38 miles of highways in the Brownwood District are to be opened on April 26-27. In Comanche County the work covers State Highway 36 for 13.434 miles from US 67 to the South Leon River. Billy R. Russell of Brownwood will supervise the project under Lawrence E. Schulz.

The De Leon Baseball Association will hold a meeting on Thursday April 14 at 7 00 p m at the F and M Bank to organize summer baseball and softball. All interested in Little League Pony League and Girls Women and Men softball are urged to attend as the meeting covers the entire summer programs.

Boy Scout Drive Kickoff Aims for 32400 in De Leon
About thirty people attended the Boy Scout Drive breakfast at De Leon City Hall. Wayne Chambers chairs the drive sponsored by the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. Enroller kits were handed out and De Leon businesses and residents will be contacted for donations. Seventy seven youths participate in the local Boy Scouts of America program.

Ollie Ross Named Fireman of the Week in De Leon
The De Leon Volunteer Fire Department honors Ollie Ross as Fireman of the Week. The 84 year old received a thirty seven year pin and has served as treasurer for many years as an honorary member. He recalls De Leon’s early days, served in World War I, and long volunteer ties to the community.

Crop Dusting Pilot Jerry Place Dies In De Leon Crash
Dr. Jerry Place aged 40 died after his small Cessna AG Truck spun into the Finnis Sides farm three miles southeast of De Leon while test flying. He founded Aero Agronomics Inc and planned to move his wife to Ohio. Funeral services were held in Gillett with Nowlin Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include wife Margie and two sons.

Bearcat Relays set for Friday with twenty six teams
The tenth annual Bearcat Relays will be held Friday April 15 with twenty six teams competing in Division A and AA. Field events start at 1:00 p.m. running prelims at 3:30 p.m. finals at 7:20 p.m. A Bearcat Relays Queen will be chosen at 6:30 p.m. and medals awarded at 7:00 p.m.
