De Leon Schools will dismiss at 2 00 p m Wednesday for the Easter holidays and will resume classes on Monday April 16 with students returning to classrooms after the break

Pre Registration For Kindergarten In 1979 District Notice

Kindergarten pre registration will be held at the Migrant Education Building on Tuesday and Wednesday April 17 and 18 from 9 to 11 30 a m and 12 30 to 2 p m. Children five years old before September 1 1979 are eligible for the 1979 80 school year. Parents should bring birth certificate and immunization record.

Kittens Win First District Track Title at Brownwood

De Leon Kittens captured the district championship at the 10-A track meet in Brownwood, finishing with 111 points to Goldthwaite's 103. The meet featured multiple regional qualifiers, led by Cindy Wilkerson's golds in the 100 yard dash and triple jump, plus two De Leon relay teams setting season-best marks. Junior high also posted a strong showing, with Lori Womack sweeping events and Bangs leading the standings.

Millsap And Smith Named To City Council In De Leon

In Saturday elections Wilford Millsap beat L A Lamb 178 to 112 for Place 2 on the De Leon City Council. Doyle Smith led Place 1 with 218 votes. Wilkerson 119 and Pickens 56. In eight way School Board race Hodges and Johnson led with 266 and 178 votes. Hospital District Board incumbents Morgan Beaty and Boyd were re elected with 275 total votes.

Scout Finance Drive Begins April 19 in De Leon

Wayne Chambers chairs the Scout Finance Drive for the Comanche Trail Council in De Leon. The drive kicks off with a 7:00 a.m. breakfast at LaDon’s Restaurant on April 19, with 38 Cub Scouts 26 Boy Scouts and 10 Explorers in units led by Cubmaster Charles McClure Scoutmaster James Perkins and Explorer Post Advisor. The council offers training supplies awards summer camp at Camp Billy Gibbons Camporee Webelos Day Camp and Philmont expeditions while guiding local leaders with professional staff. funding comes from donations and United Way partnerships. Citizens are urged to support when a Scout finance worker calls.

Shooting at Proctor Lake Leaves One Dead

A 19 year old Stephenville man, David Earl Stripling, was shot to death at Lowell Creek Park in Lake Proctor about 6 30 p m last Sunday. Within two hours three men were arrested for murder. The three are Martin J Baggs Robin Lyn Busby and Donald Wayne Deemy Bond set at 100000 each. Stripling died at Stephenville Hospital at 730 p m from a chest wound. Witnesses said a group of 50 to 75 young men were at the park when an argument erupted with a car load of three men One man pulled a pistol and fired into the crowd, then a shotgun and a .22 were fired when the trio fled. The men were pursued by multiple agencies and captured north of Proctor on Highway 377 in Comanche County. Funeral services for Stripling were held Tuesday in Stephenville with burial in Granbury. He was born September 16 1959 in Stephenville and was a construction worker. Survivors include his parents two brothers and a grandmother.
