Close Election Sets Runoff For City School Board
Saturday's results show three city council incumbents Bruton Clayton and Eaton losing to challengers Pittman Smith Mahon in tight races. Runoff set for April 13 between Pittman and Smith as Barnes, Simpson, and Caraway win school board seats and hospital board members Robinett and Womack are re-elected with Mahan taking the third seat.

The American Legion's 17th District, covering 14 counties from Fort Worth to Snyder and Hamilton, will hold its Spring Convention at De Leon Legion Hall April 13 14, 1985. State Representative Jimmy Parker and Mayor Scottie Campbell will participate in events including a joint session and welcoming remarks.

Preparations for Widening Highway 6 Near De Leon
Allan Construction Company plans a two foot widening of Highway 6 East for 5.81 miles from the De Leon city limit to the Erath County line. Work centers east of the De Leon Livestock Show Barn with August as the expected completion time. Texas Dept Highways official Bill Dudley notes base material hauled from five miles west of Comanche through De Leon and urges residents to expect truck traffic for safe, efficient progress.

City Council approves a 4800 square foot concrete station on Rusk and Labadie for the De Leon Volunteer Fire Dept. Ground donation from C. M. Caraway III and Golden Oak Milling. The De Leon one act I Never Saw a Butterfly took third in an area contest in Waco last Friday. The award makes De Leon an alternate for Region II AA. Annette Priddy won Best Actress and Melinda Johnson joined the All Star Cast.

Kindergarten Registration Dates Are April 17-18
Pre-registration for next year's kindergarten class is set for Wednesday and Thursday, April 17 and 18. The process is for children five before Sept 1, 1985, with birth certificates and immunization records required. Registrations run 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the P E Room beside the Elementary School office.
County Kids Health Fair in De Leon at City Hall
De Leon hosts a Saturday Health and Safety Fair from 9 to 1 with over 20 exhibits. Free tests include blood sugar, eye screening, anemia checks, blood pressure, dental checks, and infant care literature. Demonstrations cover fire safety, first aid, car safety seats, ear testing, and pesticide safety resources.
