De Leon sees business growth with Western Auto and a Pairy Queen planned. Schools celebrate multiple victories including Literary Meet, District Golf, K-Team and Junior High Band first division. Bearcat and Junior High teams place second in district.

In Tuesday’s city election incumbent Bill Wilkerson led Place One with 80 votes, Hugh B E McGowen had 47, Joe Warren 38, and James Asmus ran unopposed for Place 2 with 118 votes amid light turnout.
All three incumbents won seats in Saturday's De Lean School Board election. Troy McKillip led with 195 votes, Bobby Winkles followed with 176, and Dery Johnson earned 175. Gayle Mahan had 173 and Floyd Stokes trailed with 51 votes. Gil bert Owens received 42 votes.
The De Leon Study Club has placed four trash containers on streets after a year of effort. They entered the Sears Community Improvement program and could win a top award with funds for community improvement. Thanks are given to Robert Hodges, Lewis Wilkerson, Eddie Hight, and Hogan Scott for material and labor donated.
April designated as Cancer Month to support National Cancer Institute research and educational programs. Mrs. Millard Richmond leads De Leon’s Cancer Drive starting next Monday the 12th with volunteers urging donations for a cure.
De Leon High School and Elementary School topped District 10-A US literary meet with the highest combined points in De Leon. Individual winners include Glen Davis De Leon and Chapman Lock De Leon in boys events, with many first and place finishes for De Leon in both high school and elementary divisions. Regional meet spots were earned for numerous De Leon students for competition in Denton April 23-24.
Residents face an April 15 deadline as local personal income tax payments for 1970 climbed. Comanche County paid an estimated 4 028 000 last year of a Texas total 4 475 000 000. With a surtax cut to 2 1/2 percent this year the expectation is about 3 931 000, amid national tax shifts and looming federal budget changes.
The Assembly of God Church at 508 Travis Street will start a revival with Evangelist Leo Gaston of Springfield Missouri on Wednesday April 7. Services are each night at 7 30 and Sunday 7 00. Gaston converted in San Diego while in the U S Navy at age twenty and began preaching after five years of service.
Goldthwaite wins the district track title edging De Leon Bearcats 146 to 126. Ranger 69, Early 54, Dublin 40, Cross Plains 38. Bearcats take five firsts and qualify five more for regionals. Herman Hardin top performer with high points. B team also wins, De Leon heading to Clifton for regionals.
David E. Adcock of Stephenville Texas has been named managing funeral director for Higginbotham Bros & Co in De Leon He comes from Stephen ville Funeral Home and will start April 7 1971 He and his wife Darlene have one child Deanna The Adcocks are members of the 1st Baptist Church in Stephenville and he is a 1965 graduate of Dallas Institute Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science
Former Navy man and pastor for thirteen years in Texas Nebraska and Missouri travels as a solo evangelist seven years with a heavy youth ministry emphasis. He preaches on Deeper Christian Life and Last Day prophecies while his wife and three teenage daughters join for summer ministries. They reside in Springfield Missouri and broadcast singing on radio and TV as Terry Chapman invites locals to join special services.
Bearcats win the District 10 golf title at PAR Country Club led by freshman medalist Tate De Leon. Coach James Perkins guided Dublin to second place with 569, while Mack Wilson and Mike Huddleston produced top scores of 133 and 132. Bearcats advance to the Regional Title on April 22 and 23.
