The Mighty Maroon Band traveled to Stephenville High School for the Region VII East Zone UIL concert and sightreading contest. Judges Bearden Harrell Phoede graded concert, while Gilligan Thaxton Kincaid led sightreading. Four of 19 bands earned I in both categories.

Texas Peanut Producers Board Names Executive Director

Bill Huff announces Mary Webb as Executive Director of the Texas Peanut Producers Board. Webb joined as secretary in 1975, became Assistant Executive Director in 1981, and has served as Acting Executive Director since 1982. She sits on the National Peanut Council and Export Executive Committee. She is office manager and assistant secretary treasurer of the Texas Peanut Growers Association, married to Tommy Webb with three children in Nimrod, Eastland County.

Local De Leon boards fill three three year terms

Voters named incumbent Shirley Sides and newcomers Jackie Pounds and Franklin Loudermilk to the De Leon school board for three three year terms. Pounds led with 386 votes, Sides 301, Loudermilk 261, with other contenders and a total turnout of 619. Incumbents Womack Pounds Robinett led city council tally. Hospital board totals 374 votes. Tom Clayton and Glenn were elected to city council.

Fiery Crash Kills Comanche Woman

Phyllis Wells, 22, of Comanche died after a pickup truck crash near PAR Village Friday. Her husband Dempsy was thrown clear and is in stable condition at De Leon Hospital. Firefighters battled the blaze as the vehicle burned. Services for Mrs. Wells were held in Comanche. She also left her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Kindergarten Pre Registration Dates Set for April 25 26

Kindergarten pre registration will be held on Monday and Tuesday April 25 and 26 at the old lunchroom building of the elementary school. Parents should bring birth certificates and immunization records. Children must be five years old before September 1 1983 to be eligible.
