Cay Otwell says Ed Wilkerson will appear on the 4 Country Reporter show on Saturday April 13 at 6 30 p m on Channel 4 to discuss his wood carvings especially birds. Also congratulates U N Literary Meet winners from De Leon and praises teacher advisors. Easter Egg Hunt set for April 6 at 2 p m at City Park with Easter Bunny present.
First United Methodist Church invites worship with Maundy Thursday communion at 7 p.m. A Good Friday sanctuary prayer hour runs noon to 3 p.m. Sunrise Easter services begin at 6:00 a.m. atop the bell tower with a breakfast and a leprosy healing offering, followed by doors open south entrance.
On Saturday area voters will fill vacancies on the school and hospital boards and city council. Polls run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Absentee voting ended Tuesday April 2. Elections in De Leon and Desdemona use De Leon City Hall and Desdemona School for voting. Roy Thomas is Election Judge. Incumbents Phil Barnes Polly Caraway seek re election. Larry Simpson re filed. Comanche County presents a Kids Health and Safety Fair in De Leon on Saturday April 20 from 9 am to 1 pm at De Leon City Hall with 20 plus exhibits and tests for all ages. Partners include Cross Timbers Comanche County Hospital De Leon Police and Fire departments EMS and Boy Scouts.
The 16th Bearcat Relays bring high school and junior high boys to compete on Thursday April 4 with teams from De Leon Glen Rose Hico Ranger Eastland Dublin Comanche Hamilton Whitney Bangs Gorman and Early. Field events begin 230 pm with long jump discus pole vault and high jump. Finals of the 3200 meter run at 5 pm precede prelims for several dashes and hurdles. Final events start 730 pm including 400 meter relay 800 run 110 hurdles 100 hurdles 200 dash 1600 run and 1600 meter relay. Records listed include high school 3200 meter run Thompson of San.
A bake sale will be held Saturday April 6 starting at 9 a.m. in front of Food Fare to raise funds for Joyce Grisham O'Donald a patient at John Sealy Hospital. The event is sponsored by employees of the De Leon Hospital and De Leon Clinic.
