DeLeon Hosts District 10-A Track Meet This Weekend

De Leon will host the District 10-A track meet with high school, junior high teams, as Goldthwaite and De Leon top the field for the team title. Preliminaries start Friday at 2 00 p m with finals Saturday at 2 30 p m led by the 440 relay and ending with the mile relay with trophy presentations afterward.

Revival Services At St. Joe Baptist Church Begins April

St. Joe Baptist Church schedules revival from April 4 to April 11 with evangelist Rev. David Edwards of Eunice New Mexico preaching and Victor Williford of Brownwood directing music. Services start at 7 30 p m each evening.

Easter egg hunt and district track meet in De Leon

The city park hosts JCW Easter egg hunt at 2 p m sponsored by the Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce with a rain date the following Saturday April 10. De Leon will also host the 10-A District track meet Friday and Saturday featuring junior high and varsity teams with a Goldthwaite versus De Leon title battle.

De Leon Track Team Places Sixth at Ranger Meet

The De Leon track team finished sixth among thirteen at a Ranger meet in Albany. Coach Waggoner noted weekly improvements as six Bearcats posted season bests. Paul Roch ran 10.4 for fifth in the 100 yards, Herman Hardin finished fourth in the 440 at 52.2, Randy Hardin fifth in the 110 high hurdles in 43.7, Gilder fourth in the shot put at 42 feet 8 inches, Richardson third in pole vault at 10 feet 6 inches, Hardin tied for third in the high jump at 5 feet 9 inches and second in the long jump at 20 feet 9 inches.

Tractor Mishap Injures Local Girl

Jodean Miller ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Dean Miller Route two suffered a broken leg when a tractor struck a hole and swung hitting her leg on the Miller farm Friday March 24. She was taken to De Leon Community Hospital for treatment.

De Leon F F A Banquet Caps A Strong Year

The De Leon F F A held its parent-Son Banquet on March 23 at the elementary school cafe. Marcia Spalding of Sidney spoke on Americanism. Awards went to David Gilder, Buddy Williams, Jeff Whiteside, Lanny Spruill, Toby Mahan, Ann Gilder, Eddie Hight, James C. Wilkerson, and officers Lanny Spruill, Toby Mahan, Steve Hare, Gary Dossey, Eddie Hight, and Brad Koonce. The group praised livestock show results and credited teachers Garth Priddy and Don Ballard.
