Deputy Minister Junes of Public Works Surry presents engineers examinations with Jomry Soth for 1917. The notice lists officials and topics under the public works department.
A veterans letter from Shornecliffe and across Canada recounts WWI training in Regina and Petawawa Camp, then overseas orders. It notes a December 24 gift of cigars from Davidson Lodge and thanks brothers Clayton Palmer and Ernest Pickrett at Prince Edward and Seamens lodges. The writer describes drill, a six mile route march, a CPR train to Halifax, and strict train guards on arrival.

A blaze at the Empress Hotel damaged a room and a crate before Ottawa firefighters contained the flames.
