German Drive on Ypres Front Marches, British Hold Line
War dispatches describe German forces under Field Marshal Von Hindenburg attacking British positions between Arras and Ypres with heavy guns gas shells and advances. By April 17 German forces reportedly control Ballieu Wytschaete and much of Messines ridge while Haig orders no retirement as British defenses hold critical lines in Flanders.

The Wells Land and Cattle Co through representative Mr Lloyd will operate a 45 acre Dominion experimental farm in Davidson. Government and MLA Geo A Scott oversaw plot staking on section 34 near Fourth street. Eight five acre plots split for crops with four plots sown to Marquis Wheat Banner Oats and Rye Grass. Seed arrives and seeding to begin. Weather and land conditions are favorable.
